The scariest of men are these. The nice guy routine is a very convincing and clever act to disguise their true self who is a disgusting monster. I dated a type like this and I totally understand the shock. The cognitive dissonance of having felt what in your heart was genuine love and remembering it clearly but then the flood of fear and shock remembering when the mask slipped and the true monster underneath was revealed. My heart goes out to you. 💗

Did you ever have any small alarm bells before hand? I remember when I went through a similar thing It took a while but eventually I had some clarity and hindsight where I thought hmm there was this thing- or that (for instance I remember when we started dating he would stare into my eyes a lot and hold eye contact in a slightly odd way that felt uncomfortable but I also just brushed it off as being flattered and not used to attention, but in hindsight I think there was a kind of uneasy gut reaction that was my own intuition going off because he was looking at me like a predator looking at prey) Im only bringing this up because I found that it was helpful to realise that trusting men again wasn't the issue, it was just about re learning how to trust myself that gave me the strength and confidence to move in from such a foul experience with a significant other. Hopefully this is somewhat helpful. It sounds like right now you just feel how you feel and thats ok. You aren't alone. its really shit, and im sorry you went there that. xxx

I’m so sorry this happened to you, and I am so so glad to see that you are safely away from him. Stories like this are disgustingly common unfortunately, abusers know they have to lure you in by presenting the perfect image of loving behaviour before they switch to murderous acts. I would never have believed when I met my ex that he would end up violently raping me and threatening my life.
