And some assholes want us to stay even longer. We've been in there 20 fucking years. If the damn Taliban take over, then they take over. If we stayed in another 5, 10, or 20 years, they would just take over when we finally get out. It was a dumb-ass move to occupy that country in the first place. The Soviet Union did it in the 70s, and it was a mess for them. We should have learned from their mistake.

I've always been amazed about why NATO was there in the first place. I remember having seen a "what if" docu regarding the cold war getting warm. The USSR would have nuked the shit out of Europe and the red army would have started rolling and when they arrived in Calais they would be flabbergastedly asking "hey, are you going to shoot back or what?" Now, that army got its ass handed over to them in Afghanistan. The thing is, AFAIK Afghanistan is a "country' by name only. IIRC it's more like a conglomerate of local tribes making the laws.

I think the Taliban will quickly grab power again and restore things to pre 2001. It'll be a total patriarchy again. the question I have: is that a bad thing? I'd say they takes things too far regarding women. But take a good look at the shitshows we're living in when women go uncontrolled.

As a retired Soldier who served in Afghanistan, Iraq and thankfully a tour in Kuwait. This war/conflict was dragged way too far and we accomplished NOTHING in the end but dead service members on both sides and over 1 million and innocent civilians for a guy that was hiding in Pakistan and Saddam who didn’t do anything in 2003 for us to go to Iraq.

Now, many service members around that time along with me knew we were going there no matter what. Deployment orders for OIF were drawn over 1 month before the ultimatum set in March of 2003. Reserve units were also called up on orders as early as January 2003 do deployed to Kuwait in gear up for an invasion of Iraq. The American people didn’t know we were going to war and that ultimatum was bullshit because we were going anyway.

Everyone knows the CIA created the Taliban during the cold war to combat Russian expansion. The whole US invasion was about controlling the opium fields. That's 90% of the global supply. My guess is the CIA now has control of it and that's why troops are leaving. Nothing like a multi-billion dollar black ops budget funded by drug money...

Best to build a wall around that country. There's no way of saving it and its people. So it's good the US is out there, have as little interaction with them as possible. The next months and years will be interesting because the Taliban will win it over very quickly, there's little doubt about this anywhere including the afghan army, hence a new islamic state is going to be created. Won't be very violent though. It'll more or less just happen.

Look at a map. Iraq and Afghanistan have Iran in a geographic pincer. Both wars were about setting up military bases for the eventual war with Iran - when Israel gives the signal.

Bin Laden was not even in Afghanistan, according to the mainstream narrative. He was in Pakistan. And, to take the mainstream narrative at face value, you need to believe that the guy survived in caves for years while somehow also receiving consistent high-level modern medical care to stay alive (he needed dialysis). Which, of course, is not believable.

Oh and it is undisputed that he was a CIA asset.

Unpopular controversial opinion. I think daddy Israel is near the end of his use of USA. Soon they will pump and dump USA. There was no will to win it. Winning war is a brutal thing, look at what it took to make the Japanese in WW2 surrender. Even after two atomic bombings, still some members of the Japanese government wanted to fight on. To win against an insurgency like the Taliban, you have to shoot them all, their families, their wives, everyone. Even then, you might not win. Fact is the west simply does not have the guts to win such a brutal war.

Apparently I've heard from my dad that the Taliban have basically took control of some places and are now having talks with Pakistan in becoming allies. It would be the smartest thing to do since it would in turn make them a ally of China.

This is what my dad told me so other than that I don't know much but I'm quite happy things are seeming to calm down now. After all when you actually watch videos of what happens to civilians in war it is.... disturbing to say the least and only an ignorant person would justify that.
