Acting is one of the worst offenders for subjective pay scales. Consider this: Scarlet Johansson is a skilled actress, singer, dancer, Martial Arts instructor with belts in several styles and weapons, "millionaire playgirl philanthropist" to twist the Marvel description, and has spent the last decade in block-buster billion dollar films.

Yet for some reason we're supposed to consider old hags like Jane Fonda, et al, with significantly less accomplishments, but more accolades from their fellow over-grown children skilled only at playing "lets pretend" to be worth paying more money.

Why?

Also, when action and superhero films are busting the box office, and rom-coms arent bringing in what it costs to make them, why should any rom-com actor OR actress be getting paid more than scraps?

Capitalism in films - if you aint filling theaters, you dnt deserve to get paid. Right now, Ryan Renolds deserves to be paid more than most the big name hollywood actresses, because Deadpool is going to fill theaters, and none of their dramas or rom-coms can.

I think this is a joke and some of you are misunderstanding it.

My interpretation is that he doesn't make a whole lot for movies but if women are to be paid equally, they would have to take less pay.

Let's say, just for sake of argument, that the man gets paid more not because of institutional sexism, but because his star power is what puts asses in seats. If he doesn't sign on, the movie might not get made. The woman then makes nothing. Alternatively, the movie gets made, but without his star power, the producers expect less box office revenue, so the woman is paid less than what she could've made. Way to empower women.
