Wow - I wish this guy luck.

About damned time.

[–]wisewizard 85 points86 points87 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

nice work newser. Protect the guys anonimity in one paragraph and then give specific details about him in the next ಠ_ಠ

[–]Flying_Genitals 35 points36 points37 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It's like that newscast that blocked the person's face and gave their full name at the bottom of the screen during the interview.

[–]boredON 34 points35 points36 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"Lisa S.".... No that's too obvious... uuh. Let's say "L. Simpson"

[–]mildcal73 points 9 years ago [recovered] | Copy Link

I love that line. I use it all the time.

[+]CaptainWater 9 years ago* [recovered] (1 child) | Copy Link

There was no personal info in the article from what I could see? John Doe is not his real name.

[–]wisewizard 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

A determined person could use the info in the second paragraph to find his identity.

We're returning to the Victorian age, where having any sort of pre-marital relations with a woman will get you flogged.

[–]NotA_Sheep 75 points76 points77 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

Might not be so bad. Not a big fan of those pre-marital relations tbh

Huge fan of flogging.

[–]Jugalotus_lol 35 points36 points37 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Ya normally I have to pay good money to get flogged.

[–]jslnk 7 points8 points9 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

That would be a welcome relief over today's message of, "women are free to enjoy sex as much, as often, with as many partners and as kinky as they like, but men need to have a notarized statement of consent with two witnesses, have at least one impartial witness throughout the act, videotapes to be turned in to authorities within 24 hours and maybe, just MAYBE, she won't cry "rape".

[–]SuckMyFist 8 points9 points10 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

having any sort of pre-marital relations with a woman will get you flogged.

Actually in our wonderful feminist civilization the flogging doesn't stop when you get married, marital rape anyone?

We Westerners are not even pussy-whipped anymore we are fucking pussy-serfs.

I read the headline to fast and thought it said the "Universe" was being sued, and I wondered where I get in line. I got a few gripes against the Universe.

What a coincidence that The Univeristy Of Chicago is also pushing their anti-safe space position ....where of course the Totalitarian use raises mass Title IX issues when abused by Femiloons as a way to petulantly manipulate the law so they feel powerful.

[–]DashRiprockIII 9 points10 points11 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

That’s very interesting. Perhaps they see the train wreck that is coming. To speculate... there must be millions of men who were continuously terrified and psychologically scarred by their university years. In the future there will be less man up rhetoric, men will complain as much as women and perhaps thousands of men will sue. If rapists can be jailed fifty years after the event then men may sue fifty years after the event for lost earnings – which would mount into billions – if their university years scared them to the point that it held back their careers. I wonder what just one anxiety disorder is worth fifty years down the track.

[–]Imnotmrabut 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Nnot much as you need to die at 40 and have your estate sue! P¬))

[–]iehava 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

$175k? That's it? The damages should be in the millions, easily, especially considering damage to the guy's reputation.

[–]junkeee999 34 points35 points36 points 9 years ago (13 children) | Copy Link

Just wondering, what criteria is being used for for all the reactions saying 'about time' and wishing him well?

We're given two paragraphs of sketchy information and no detail.

Yes I acknowledge that universities can sometimes create a hostile environment for men. But we simply have no clue if this particular man's lawsuit against this particular university has any merit whatsoever. Blindly cheering him on reveals a great deal of bias in my opinion, every bit as much as a feminist group blindly cheering on every sexual predator accusation.

Taking a rooting interest without knowing facts is wrong when either side does it.

[–]FastFourierTerraform 36 points37 points38 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

It accomplishes 2 things: it continues establishing precedent for suing universities for gender discrimination, which is badly needed, even if they lose, and it adds pressure for getting universities out of the sexual assault adjudication business. Right now, the justice department is up in their ass unless they expel male students without due process. We want to make that such a painful process on their end that the universities will beg to let the legal system handle criminal assault allegations.

[+]junkeee999 -14 points-13 points-12 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

So you're promoting lawsuits to add pressure. Frivolous, justified, makes no difference to you. You just want a flood of litigation, facts be damned.

I will have to disagree with that tactic.

[–]ExcessiveGiraffe 27 points28 points29 points 9 years ago* (0 children) | Copy Link

Well, the facts should take over through the actual legal system. The school shouldn't act like a legal system. Let's separate justice and education.

[–]RedAsBlood 22 points23 points24 points 9 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link

He was proved innocent and is still being discriminated against (removed from a physics class).

Just reverse the genders in this case. If a male alleged a female made inappropriate sexual contact against him do you think the same reprecussions would happen to the female?

[+]junkeee999 -20 points-19 points-18 points 9 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link

You have absolutely no basis to form an opinion, besides the fact he wasn't convicted of a crime. You simply don't know the nature of any of the other circumstances.

Yet you've concluded he is being unjustly discriminated against. You are approaching this story from an obviously biased standpoint.

[–]RedAsBlood 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

What other circumstances are you referring to?

" ... Despite being found innocent by the university in both cases ..."

This is a direct quote from the article. Meaning the university found nothing wrong with his behaviour or actions.

So essentially he is innocent (did nothing wrong) but is still being punished (being removed from a class).

I am really curious to see what "other circumstances" you think should have a person removed from a class despite being proved innocent.

[–]junkeee999 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link

So you think committing a crime is the only criteria for getting removed from a class? There could be hundreds of other reasons.

[–]RedAsBlood 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

You didn't answer my question.

What "other circumstances" are you referring to?

[–]junkeee999 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I didn't think I had to.

What if he was harassing her in class, giving her unwanted attention? That's two. Do you want a couple dozen more? Can you really not envision any scenario where a person is removed from a class short of committing a crime?

[–]RedAsBlood 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link

"He says the university did nothing when the two women called him a sexual predator online and in public"

How do you feel about this statement?

Since you are saying that a person should be removed from a class for giving "unwanted attention", what should the punishment be for publicly slandering someone who was proven innocent (in two seperate cases) of sexual assault.

Should that also warrant removal from classes?

[–]junkeee999 0 points1 point2 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I don't know how I feel about that statement because I have no clue of its accuracy.

And neither do you.

But while i refuse to pass judgment on things I don't know about, you are more than happy to do exactly that, biased by your preconceived notions.

[–]AssAssIn46 6 points7 points8 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

I've seen a lot of posts and read a lot of article about this story and I'm sure others have too so taking those into consideration this seems pretty accurate. If you've been following the story then it's pretty clear he was innocent (like he was found by the university/court) and this article seems to just be a follow up.

[–]Temperfuelmma 3 points4 points5 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Just wondering, what criteria is being used for for all the reactions saying 'about time' and wishing him well?

Emotional support.

You know, like in rape cases where we don't know whether a rape occurred or not but we give emotional support regardless, in case a malpractice did happen?

(I'm sick of having to form rational arguments to explain basic human needs of men. We're humans, not stones, we need support just as much .)

[–]SilverHoard 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Keep us posted on this! Sounds very interesting.

[–]feedmecarrots 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Finally! A lawsuit that goes to the core of the problem. I hope that the award is huge along with the embarrassment to the University. They are all "hostile enviornments" in the wake of the Dear Collegue letter.

I sure hope someone posts how this turns out and it gets upvoted a bunch so I don't have to do any actual research or pay any attention to the case.

[–]wok51 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

We're returning to the guy's reputation.

[–]ToxicSparkle 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Wasn't there a post on this subreddit a couple days ago about suing using this title IX thing? Maybe John Doe is among us?

[–]chambertlo 1 point2 points3 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fucking finally.

If I pay to go to school, you better believe that I will not be putting up with this feminist bullshit for one fucking second. I hope that he gets a lot of money and that the school is forced to shut down for catering to the lowest hanging fruit.

Falsely-accused men need to sue all false accusers as well.

I wonder why Doe is suing only one of them.

is there a point to going to college if you just want education? not for the fraternities or social aspects or a job but can't you just learn on your own?

if you find a way to make money by creating your own business or "entrepeneuring" or whatever like /u/xnotch then are you like a retard because you don't have a degree?

[–]Corsaer 5 points6 points7 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Fraternities and sororities and parties and bar crawls are optional. And only one facet of the social aspect to college. They're completely optional. The literal point of college is to go for education.

There are huge amounts of extracurricular clubs and events that focus around knowledge and learning or simply for people in your degree to get together and talk about it and study. Even these are optional for the diehard introvert. Not getting a college degree locks you out of a huge number of fields, such as nearly any hard science or math or healthcare profession.

[–]DarkStrobeLight 11 points12 points13 points 9 years ago (11 children) | Copy Link

It's harder to prove "self taught" then showing a diploma. Sad but true. If you want to compete in the job market, you have to get a degree.

You do notice notch only has one successful game he developed, it just happened to get very successful.

It can be done depending on what exactly you're trying to learn, I am personally learning how to draw and I'm even learning to make silver jewellery and set gemstones through private tuition rather than going through the traditional university route.

The problem is though there are some very specialised degrees in Universities where it's just simpler to get them instead. I do think though that especially if you're a guy, the whole system is exceptionally ridiculous not least because of idiotic scenarios like what is listed in the article above.

Don't get me wrong, sure you can go the independent route, but that's not always best for some people and for some subjects you just need a professional with knowledge to teach you and unfortunately universities are often the best at that.

Though it seems lately the tide has turning and a lot of degrees are actually becoming worthless now.

[–]Seicair 2 points3 points4 points 9 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

Depends entirely on what you're studying. There are a lot of degrees where I think people would be better off reviving some sort of apprenticeship system, or just going to a 1 or 2 year trade school. I'm going back to school for biochem and neuroscience, and that's not really something you can easily self-teach or learn on the job. I'm a junior and haven't joined a frat or gone to any parties with more than 10-20 people.
