Accounting for the lessened sentence, in part, was the fact that although cellphone records have indicated that Meyers had sent text messages one to two minutes before the collision, they did not prove that she had been texting at the time of the collision.

she sent a text a couple minutes before getting on the highway, seems pretty likely that she could have been parked while sending those and then departed. I'm not saying she should only get a 500 dollar fine, but I don't really see this as a clear cut "send that bitch to jail" case.

Furthermore, although the witness reported that Meyers had not come to a complete stop before crossing the highway, Attorney Anne Colt Leitess said that a data recording device in the car indicated that she had, indeed, stopped.

The witness lied in the same statement to the police.

This isn't a men's rights issue. There's no pussy pass here. As a rider, I often follow reports of motorcycle deaths, and it is fairly common that cagers get a hand slap when killing a rider, no matter what their plumbing is.

Wow. That is less than what you would get for driving with no insurance in my state. That's not having an accident with no insurance, that is just getting pulled over and finding out you have no insurance. I figured the punishment for anyone killing someone because of negligence would be more than that.

The title here doesn't seem to reflect the evidence.

I don't see this as a men's issue. There are all kind of guys who get off on D&D charges involving a death with no jail time. I realize there is a trend that women get lesser sentences than men, but this just seems like police doing their job here and not being able to get the evidence needed for a conviciton.

I have heard it said before, if you want to kill someone, do it with a car. The punishments for road rage, vehicular manslaughter, etc. are much lighter than their non-car involving counterparts. Keep that in mind when reading a news story involving car accidents.

I think it's very hard to send someone to jail for something like this. Motorcycles are the dumbest vehicle on the roads. My dad was damn near killed by an old man that turned left while not paying attention. My dad doesn't ride motorcycles anymore. Bc it's stupid. You're taking a huge risk that someone could kill you from a seconds lapse in judgement. If the guy had been in a car, he might not have died. I'm not down with sending someone to jail for accidentally killing a person riding a motorcycle unless they were dui. People here are acting like they've never texted or looked at a phone while driving. Am I to assume everyone is a robot while driving? This isn't a pussy pass. Motorcycling is risky as fuck and it wasn't like she intentionally ran him over. I love the pussypass sub but this is just reaching.
