I would like to clarify that the reason feminists are pushing for paternity leave is NOT because they care about fathers or men. They want to bring down men in eyes of their employers. If men are as likely to take leave due to having a kid, it makes female employees less disadvantaged compared to male employees. Feminism is never about helping men.

You think a mother wouldn't want/need some extra help considering what she just went through? Seems a little mean to the mother that she is responsible alone for the care of the child the majority of the time a few weeks at the least. He's going to have many a sleepless night as well as her but then he has to go to work on top of it. Most men would quit their jobs in a second to be with their children more but it's impossible to do so in modern society if you're not already fairly wealthy or 100% self sustaining. Love and wishing doesn't put food on the table or pay the bills.

I don't think anchoring leave to just Children,infants and pregnancy is a good idea. It creates a market incentive that favors hiring people that choose not to have kids or cannot have them. In some ways that might be good in that it may benefit older workers and people that don't reproduce but it's a market pressure that works counter to the intention of such government interventions.

Also everyone's situation is different what if a women recovers fast and would rather have some more flexibly in when to take leave. or what if male parental involvement is more influential with older children. Their are all sort a variants of need so a one size fits all approach is not the best way to go IMHO.

Better to give everyone leave that builds over time for their non optional needs like caring for the ill people their responsible for whether those people are the workers themselves their children or their parents, whoever we all have important responsibilities.

Allow business to write off those 10 payed days per year even if the employees doesn't use the leave that year as an incentive. Do this and call it whatever you like but tying it strictly to pregnancy is dumb and punishes business that hire prolific breeders. Really if you wanna have a bunch of kids and 10 days a year accrued leave will not be enough well how can choose this and not expect that your choices would not seriously impact your employment options?

Frankly, I don't see that as a big deal.

"Why don't men get to have maternity leave?" is akin to saying "Why don't men get to have abortions?".

Sexual dimorphism. It doesn't cease to exist if it doesn't fit the agenda.

Of course, with the purpose of maternity leave extended to encompass not only the time needed to bear the child and recover from birth, but also to raise the child - the latter can go to either parent. But longer maternity leave for women is hard to argue against. It's biology.
