Because everyone and everything around us tells us that hating on men is okay. That they can take it and deserve it. And that's just the political/cultural side. Add our biologic inclination for male disposability and veneration for women and it becomes crystal clear why double standards against men could fill up the entire Pacific.

I often wonder if this isn't a reflection of some deep level of insecurity among the women who enjoy these articles. It seems pretty sad to me that a large group of people have to tear down another group just to feel better about themselves and their accomplishments (or lack of accomplishments).

I think it's just the counter-weight to the delusion they were fed about how every girl is a princess and every woman deserves a fairy tale wedding and every woman can be president or CEO if they just do the right things.

At no point are boys told these sorts of Santa Claus level lies about adulthood.

So when women reach adulthood and find that there is no fairy tale wedding and there is no tiara for showing up to work and there is no escalator for people that "just want it more"... Men are the scapegoat.

Women's history is basically a bipolar fever dream. They were oppressed like slaves since the dawn of time, but they're entitled to be royalty. Wait, what? Neither of those extremes are true, but they're perpetuated with frightening regularity.

Most women, and I say most because there's an entire media empire built on it and it's seeped into public policy, are not mature enough to handle the real world of being an adult. Real consequences for committing crimes, real repercussions for having poor judgement in relationships, real gauges of performance in academics and the workplace... They can't handle it. They want to be exempt, with special rules that make it easier for them.

Gender is a simple target for people too dumb to understand the larger picture, much like race. "The white man" is not keeping you down, an economic system designed to oppress the poor is keeping you down. "Black people" are not biologically predisposed to violence and crime, poor people are more likely to commit violent crimes because a lack of guidance and increased desperation result in higher deviation from societal norms.

Women are not biologically at fault for being out of touch with reality. They are victims of a narrative; and much like child abuse, by growing up believing that it's normal they then pass along the same bad behaviors to their children. The narrative of "Women are Wonderful" does not include personal responsibility for one's failures, which means if women are ever not wonderful, it couldn't possibly be their fault. And so the male blame train rages on, in the wake of a culture of women incapable of taking responsibility for themselves.

You would think the articles would be about women, but half of the articles however are about men and nearly all of the articles about men would if they were about any other group of people be declared as hate speech.

I think it's quite an interesting question to ask, but I would like to be more certain that (a) it's true and (b) in what way it is true, before trying to answer it; which was why I've just spent the last 10 minutes looking at the articles in the Women's section of The Guardian looking over the titles and very (very) briefly skim-reading the first couple of paragraphs.

Let me be quite clear that I am fiercely critical of and strongly opposed to the brand of Feminism pushed by The Guardian, but of the 28 articles published there between 8 and 11 April (see below - yes, I clearly have a lot spare time on my hands!) I could really only find one that comes close to fitting the description you've given it as being misandrist (the one reporting on UKIP (UK Independence Party)'s image problem is more of an attack on the party than on men as a group or class as such).

All 27 others - including those by epic morons Bridget Christie, Caroline Criado-Perez, Laura Bates and even Jessica Valenti - all of whom can normally be expected to spout the most Christingly awful slanders, lies, misconceptions and bullshit about men - are on quite other subjects.

I'm not pretending that this is in any way scientific and maybe it was just that this week is the exception that proves the rule, but you do really need to back up your claim with some examples otherwise it's just hearsay.

Empathy is said to be a positive trait women have.

Empathy is a positive trait people develop by recognizing that they don't necessarily have it innately. We think that women have it innately... the result is that women as a group don't develop their empathy.

The idea that women specific empathy is like women always being the victim in DV. A lie told so often that people believe it by default. Women have social empathy, where they learn to read the subtext of other women's conversations. Women look after children which is taken as shorthand for empathy. Women occasionally manipulate men by being kind, that is also considered empathy. But in practice, women have no more ability to empathise with other people than men do. They may have less in fact but I couldn't really say.

In the same sense, women claim to understand men and people believe that. But men can't claim to understand women. The result is that a woman who does not understand the feelings of a man can claim that men are emotional stunted rather than admit she doesn't empathise. Men cannot do the reverse. For women, empathy is something that you are paid for in some way. They care for children and the father pays. They are paid for doing a caring job.

Women (like men) are trained by nature to not have empathy for men, just other women and children.

Obviously women go against this all the time, but in a purely naturalistic world, women wouldn't care about men at all (which isn't their fault). It's good that some do.

As others have pointed out, we also live in a culture where hating men is kind of an okay or even a cool thing to do.

"Men are pigs" is a genre. It's been for ages one the favorite genres of women.

But for how long? When you read books written before the 1960s, men are often described in a normal way. Of course there are bad men but they are individuals or representatives of an evil subculture. They are not bad because they are male.

Then something happened, probably the revolt against the tradition that came up with all kind of new BAD classes. Men were one.

Men and women like to hate because that is the best way to reinforce ones identity. What I hate I'm not. The "problem" is that appropriate targets of hate are getting few.

Women still have men, though.

Read up on the apologetic used to support racism in the Jim Crow South. "I don't hate Niggers, I just think they should know their place" really was a thing people said. They said this about the people they worked with and employed. The bigots supporting Racism in the Jim Crow South didn't consider themselves hateful or racist. Why would you think that the bigots supporting sexism would be any different.

Because misandry is still socially acceptable. Our society sees no problem with the denigration and hatred of men. In the same way that people in the American South more than 60 years ago saw no moral problem with printing anti-black racism, and the 1930s era German public approved of anti-semitism, people now just don't consider men as a class worthy of equal consideration as human beings.

As for the prevalence of such rhetoric, there are a lot of factors that contribute in addition to lack of moral development. Publications like to appeal to their readers' baser instincts in order to drive pageviews. Women today also feel entitled to act with complete disregard for the well-being of others, spurred by feminism and gynocentrism.

Not entirely. But they still perceive males as running the world, and they enjoy seeing those world-beaters taken down a peg. You know, sour grapes.

That said, misandry was always more common than misogyny, so much more common that it was almost seen as a norm, while misogyny was seen as a pathology. For instance, in the 50s no one heard of the word "heterosexuality" because, unlike "homosexuality," it was the norm, not a life-style choice. All Americans know the word "jaywalking," but is there a word for crossing with the light?

When women had very little institutional power, misandry was seen as harmless, even cute. Now it's a problem.

women are also the ones who read tabloids, so some are willing to read articles that hate on celebrities instead/as well as on men. it seems to be something in the psyche that they need to feel better than others.

I think a lot of it is scapegoating. Both men and women do that but, since it's socially acceptable for women to complain about men (even their "loved" ones) amongst each other, that basically makes men a quick and easy target.

The reason men don't do it with women is because it's not socially acceptable.
