I had this conversation last night with a non-feminist lady, regarding single mothers:

Her: I feel that single mothers deserve state support because their husbands probably walked out on them.

Me: ... most divorces are initiated by women and if they weren't in a relationship with the guy in the first place, they could have had an abortion.

Her: That's because the men probably cheated on them or beat them.

Me: You know this... how?

Her: I just feel that would be the reason.

As the conversation went on, there was a lot of 'I feel' and 'I believe', and every single time I cited statistics/studies she would go back to 'feeling' that men were somehow to blame, i.e., that women could never do wrong. Women are wonderful, don't you know?

Yes--I have experienced the WAW effect--and thought about it a great deal. I used to work in a health insurance company that was 73% female, and my female colleagues would praise each other to the skies. "She's amazing!" "She's great!" I think they do it unconsciously. It seems to be part of being a female. I am very happy to see Hoff Sommers addressing this topic.

"WAW! Female soldier has passed such-and-such training event ! You go girl ! Awards for her!" "Sir, there where literally, 45 male soldiers in that program who also completed the training and 44 of them scored higher marks than that female soldier. Do they also deserve awards ?" "No. Shut up, Sergeant. The Female Soldier kicked ass!"

Christina Hoff Sommers once mentioned that the reason she originally became a feminist was because of male chauvinism. Yet today, who's more chauvinistic? I'll put my money on the gender winning 80% of divorce cases, and initiating them. I'll put my money on the one's wearing "Boys are stupid. Throw rocks at them!" shirts. I'll put my money on the one's who elbow their way into hobbies demanding special privileges and actually get them. I'll put my money on the gender who says it makes less than men, while using a statistic so completely flawed it's absurd, yet get taken seriously. I'll put my money on the gender who can call gang rape, get a frat house vandalized, have the members called to be castrated, and even after being called out for the false rape accusation, still not have to face any repercussions.

Now we know. They're worse than the men who stirred up their initial movement.

WAW is tangible and everywhere.

GamerGate was arguably kicked off because of people going against the WAW. "A female dev made this awesome game!" "Ehh.. it's barely a game, and it's definitely not awesome" "YOU'RE A MISOGYNIST, AREN'T YOU!?"

WAW was all over Sarah Palin. WAW is all over Kim Kardashian. WAW will be all over Hillary.

These are all completely unexceptional, underqualified nobodies. But because they're women in the media spotlight... Praise and adoration.

In my own workplace, I've seen women managers that know absolutely nothing about the technical side of this job (it's an IT company), but they're "people persons". They get a total pass on anything related to the technical aspect of the product we sell and support, and they stay on the sidelines of any conversation or meeting that deals with product enhancement or technical customer issues. Why are they even here? They just generate reports and give performance evaluations. You can't not do those technical job roles, they just shrug their responsibilities over to the male managers. The women engineers also seem to get a huge pass on excess absenteeism and low performance numbers.

I don't think it's necessarily impossible for men to win, but it's painfully obvious that men have to do extra work or exceptional work to get any sort of recognition when competing with women 'peers'. Women are placed on a pedestal by default, men have to fight to even be granted a pedestal and then prove why they should get the privilege of standing on it.

I think the problem is the younger generation - & I would even include myself in that at 29 - are being brought up with a certain amount of entitlement. They expect to be handed things. But the difference is that girls are being taught this entitlement is OK. If u cant get a certain job or earn certain money then feel free to complain & we'll lower the entry requirements or introduce quotas.

Literally just read this on the BBC Sport website http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/32138596 If boys werent enjoying sport they'd be told just to get on with it but because its girls, they want to rip the whole system up. Make no mistake, if boys were outperforming girls at school to the extent girls do boys, then the education system would be revolutionized.

Front page, giant photo of her (preferably in a bikini), story continued on pages 3 and 4, with breakout boxes, timelines, and a full biographic/hagiography ("Lynne was about to start studying medicine!" Yeah, well, she didn't need to study it to know taking a fistful of unknown pills from a random stranger at a festival was a bad idea, the dumb bitch).

That was my biggest problem with #yes allwomen. It was all about how all women face problems everyday with males. But when people tried to combat it with not all men, it became a problem. Because while not all men are terrible, enough of them are to make it always the man's fault.

We've been living under gynocentrism for a very long time. It's so all-pervasive in our culture that most people aren't consciously aware of it.

Girl Writes What mentioned a study she had read where they looked at every commercial in which a man and woman were competing. Stuff like the laundry detergent, where one of them is using the name brand, and the other is using the no-name brand, and which one gets the clothes whiter? They watched every commercial that had women competing against men that has been made over the last 10 years, and men won in 2 of them. Not 2 percent, 2 total.

In all seriousness though, isn't the WAW effect going to turn some men into misogynists, merely as a kind of psychological self-defence against the prevailing culture? I know hate isn't the answer to hate, but some people find it hard not to think that way.

Wow. I need to see more of Ms Sommers work, but first impressions are a voice of fair and honest evaluation. How refreshing to have that in a world of feminism that is often a cluster fuck of bullshit.
