In English class sophomore year of high school we read the book "The Things They Carried" by Tim O'Brien. Its been a few years, but one of the main points the book makes is the difference between the "story truth" and what actually happened. Now this book has won awards, and is very popular, but this was one thing that really didn't sit right with me. The basic idea was that its sometimes not lying to totally embellish your story because that's how it felt, not that that was what actually happened. I feel like that kind of thinking is really whats on display here. She knows she wasn't being honest, but she thinks that painting him as a physical abuser is the best way to have the courts feel the same about him as she did. I think this idea that the story truth is better than the real truth is common, and screws a lot of things up. For example, I don't think anyone (very few) believes 1/5 women is raped in college, but that's the story truth of it, everyone knows its bs so you look like an ass for pointing it out.

Sorry for the ramble, but yeah. Story truth needs to not be considered truth.

Seriously though, why is she not in jail for perjury and filing a false police report? Is there any way this can be used to get her husband out of jail? Shouldn't he be entitled to punitive damages from her in civil court as well? I feel like admitting this on national television just put the nail in her coffin but she's just laughing it off with the audience. Why didn't Dr. Phil report her immediately?
