i hated that movie and got so much second hand embarrassment from it

[–]smallstarseeker[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children) | Copy Link

Second hand embarassment?

[–]rurunoa 4 points5 points  (2 children) | Copy Link

yeah i was embarrassed for the characters they were so cringeworthy

[–]smallstarseeker[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

I get that too.

Some of my friends like to watch cringe scenes, but I can't because I feel embarassed seeing other people embarass themselves 😂

[–]rurunoa 2 points3 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

i kept laughing throughout i cant take it seriously lmao

I guess most men hate that movie, because it shows how fucked up female sexuality is.

[–]Extremiditty 5 points6 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I think a lot of people hate that movie because it portrays abuse as BDSM which is dangerous.

[–]rurunoa 5 points6 points  (24 children) | Copy Link

im a girl ☠️ and dont act like there arent thousands of men who are the male counterpart and have a rape fetish

[–]EnteFetz 5 points6 points  (22 children) | Copy Link

Ok, sure male sexuality can lead some men into absolutely deprived shit while most men are not into that at all. While but 50 Shades of Grey is one of the best selling books of all time, which means for women it is normal to be attracted to this kind of abusive egoistic confident, Narcicist.

[–]rurunoa 1 point2 points  (21 children) | Copy Link

no it’s not normal, if we added up all the views of porn that clearly depicts women being abused (wether consensual or non consensual, because 50 shades of grey was also consensual) it would probably greatly outnumber the amount of women that bought these books and similar books.

True, I know a guy who is basically a copy of Grey. He is a super rich entrepreneur, conventionally good looking, "alpha male", anger issues and loves to always be dominant over his partner. Granted I've never seen the movie or read the books, I'm just going off what I've heard.

100%

That movie was comedy and wtf

When he says,"oh.. You are english major? Was it Charlotte,Jane Austen or Thomas Hardy who made you fall in love with literature?".

Another, when she says,"Why do you want to do anything with me at all?"Christian pretending to have tempting presence, replied,"I am 50 shades of fucked up"

These made me laugh.

Christian Grey is beyond problematic. He’s just an entire red flag. The bdsm portrayal is abusive trash .

I don’t watch these types of movies or read these types of books but the fact that the movies and books did so well says a lot about female sexuality. Box office numbers do not lie.

If it was a flop then you could make an argument that females do not like this stuff

[–]kokorwqac 0 points1 point  (29 children) | Copy Link

There are also things that do well with women that include vanilla stuff, or things with men that involve hardcore kinks

Plus most of those were older women anyway

[–]IHateNormis 0 points1 point  (28 children) | Copy Link

Females of all ages flocked to watch 50 shades of grey

[–]kokorwqac 0 points1 point  (27 children) | Copy Link

The stats say it was mostly older women, but there are also wholesome shows you're ignoring

[–]IHateNormis 0 points1 point  (26 children) | Copy Link

365 days isn’t more “wholesome”

[–]Marzipan-Happy 1 point2 points  (0 children) | Copy Link

I just couldn't even. I just noped right on out of that one.

Fifty Shades has drawn criticism from a LOT of people for the way Grey acts.

[–]RatDontPanicAverage Unfrustrated Chump 0 points1 point  (4 children) | Copy Link

But then he spawned a ton of billionaire romance books. Romance books are the most commonly read women's lit. In fact it is one of the most popular genres, period.

[–]DivineDaedraChadwife 0 points1 point  (3 children) | Copy Link

Yes, and there are a wide variety of romance books out there. They’re like porn for Christian housewives lmao

The allure of being told to do what you already wanted to do (when you’re not supposed to want to do it) is pretty strong for people who are told not to want certain things. Toxic romance novels are popular but that doesn’t make them any less toxic and there are a lot of people who openly criticize the genre.

[–]RatDontPanicAverage Unfrustrated Chump 0 points1 point  (2 children) | Copy Link

Of course they're toxic. My issue is how many people are criticizing them publicly and fapping to them in private? The sheer popularity of these books makes that question a valid one.

[–]DivineDaedraChadwife 0 points1 point  (1 child) | Copy Link

People masturbate to problematic porn all the time.

It’s very common to find something arousing in theory without actually wanting to experience it.

You can kill a man, but you can't kill an idea.
