I have been divorced for 2 years and in my late 30s. She got half the assets which is state law which I have no issues with. She did not get any Alimony. My biggest expense is Child Support which for 2 kids is about 25% of net paycheck plus they are on my medical insurance plan. I love my kids and support them financially and emotionally. I see them every weekend.

After 2 years money is tight. I have done a lot of reflecting and acceptance. I guess my question is are there any men out there who basically have accepted the fact finances are going to be complete shit until the oldest turns 18? For me its going to be a few years until that happens so I will be in my mid 40s. I have accepted I can finally enjoy life then. I am over my ex wife, she moved on with another guy, and I am in a relationship. My SO is understanding and we plan cheap dates, and I feel like shit because sometimes when we go on trips she has to cover many of the expenses. Sometimes I wonder if I should just put dating on hold.

It has really impacted my self worth. I am a grown ass adult in my late 30s, live with 2 roommates since I cannot even afford a 1 bedroom apartment (rents are 2K a month here), drive a 12 year old car, and watch every penny I spend.

Also what really bothers me is friends/GF/coworkers make less money than I do, and they spend money on fun stuff without even giving it a second thought. Meanwhile, I struggle just to make ends meet forget about fun stuff.

Any thoughts?
