So - your in-laws are separate from your separation - their actions, while awful cannot be controlled through your lawyer unless you’re going to sue them for assaulting you. Call the police. Have them charged. If your ex is encouraging them, find evidence and have them charged too. And you can add the inciting to the separation stuff in many jurisdictions and it will be held against them in the proceedings.

This is trashy behavior they should be ashamed of themselves. Straight up Jerry Springer the audience is laughing at you type stuff.

You need to pursue this to the maximum you can. Draw a firm line that they cannot behave like this and make it painful (legally) or they will feel bold enough to do something similar in the future.

I’m sorry you are dealing with this and I feel awful for these children. Adults acting like this in front of them, idiot animals.

Record record record. If you can afford it there are pen cameras that look like a pen and fit on your shirt. Until then use your phone cameras

Every night put the backup of recordings on cloud or an external hardrive.

I rented a locker to put my hard drive.

Fortunately I never had to use them but in your case a threat of jail for your father in law can make your life very easy during negotiations

It sounds like a punk move, but record everything, document everything, and call the police. The police will do nothing. You don't call them for that. You call to document!

If these situations occur again, remember grey rock and no emotional response. The courts don't care about he said vs she said, they do care about police reports.

Recording laws vary from state to state. If one party consent you are good; others allow in your own home; others are two party consent BUT you can inform them that this interaction is being recorded and if they choose to continue to communicate/stay that covers you.

Stay strong. Have a witness with you for every conversation, and record conversations per your state’s restrictions. Over communicate your boundaries and keep your emotions in check.

This sucks. I feel for you.

Personally, I’d tell my own FIL that if he ever touches me again, I’ll knock him out. That’s a promise I make to myself. My own FIL isn’t the type, though. Good guy.
