I’m not married or divorced but I recently went though a bad breakup this past weekend and after doing some reflecting I probably would’ve went down that path. I’ve read countless stories and I think I saved myself from a possible nightmare down the road. I just need some reassurance that I’ve made the right move not pursuing this any further.

I’m a 30M and was dating a 24F for about 2 1/2 years . We didn’t necessarily see eye to eye on things such as politics in the beginning and she became extremely “woke”. I told her it was better to agree to disagree and rarely heard about it again. We stayed through this whole pandemic with me jumping through hurdles to please her and her family. Talking outside through a window, bringing food over , getting tested again and again etc etc . It all really annoyed me but I did it to make them happy.

She decided not to continue her education in psychology and I later found out she was 100k deep in student loan debt yikes. Then she decided to work with her mother as a real estate agent. After a month or so she says she doesn’t like it. Then she decides she’s going to work for her dad’s business. His business isn’t doing well and never receives the job as promised. Finally she gets a job as a fitness coach at a gym near by. It doesn’t pay much at all and she becomes obsessed with it. Every conversation is about the gym and members blah blah I was happy she actually stuck with something.

I’m a police officer, I work a lot of overtime and do well for myself (varying from 150k-200k a year). Despite working I made time for her every weekend, took her out to nice dinners, countless vacations. Suddenly she says she’s “bored” , doesn’t want to sit around at the house anymore. I suspect she envied her single hoe friends at her job and wanted to live that life again. We get into an argument the other night while out , she was drunk and said she wanted to be alone, wanted to go out drinking and have fun again and wanted to take a break and to talk about it tomorrow . I told her don’t expect to ever see me again or hear from me and went on my way .

It hurt me because like many of us we loved them and my brain was fogged with promises of marriage , spending the rest of our lives together etc etc . But here I am thinking that I may have just dodged a bullet. I pictured the relationship being just like her father and mothers’ later in life, being dragged out every weekend to go to sushi dinners, taking her on vacation and sleeping on the couch the next day because she wasn’t happy about something, buying a pelaton that never gets used.

I would’ve had to fund her lifestyle and keep her entertained while she brought in 25k from working at a gym and never contributed to anything. Not to mention she was Jewish and I was catholic and irked me on the idea of not having any say in what religion I raised my kids on.

So fellas please give me some reassurance if you can that I made the right decision in just leaving, stop trying to compromise and move on to something better . Thanks again .
