I know of 5 people recently divorced and three of the women paid out not the men. They paid BIG because they were the money makers.

The law is technically equal be it man or women in the US. It depends on the income/marriage.

TRP seems to not actually really understand US law on divorce. If the woman makes more she pays out if he does he pays.

I dont care what the reason is for divorce, it plays out one who makes what/years together.

Then they cry about child support when its your job as a parent to support. Cry about actually paying to support your own kids. Child support laws started because of deadbeat dads...

Yeah it's total bullshit, these guys want to have a good stay-at-home wife/mom but they also don't want to pay to support such wife and children .

You either be cool with her working or pay for alimony. Or don't get married in the first place.

Not to mention it is asinine that these guys seem to want to bring children into the world and then they will bitch about child support. Raising children costs money. This isn't rocket science.

They do this because they are disingenuous. Specifically, they hate feminism and the idea that women are more oppressed than men. The rampant sexual assault of women in our society becomes something that supports that idea though, so these men need to invent things they think match that to try to minimize its impact.

(Of course, men are sexually assaulted as well.)

Divorce rape is nonsense. Get divorced, split what you made together - fair. Don’t want to pay alimony? Marry a woman who makes as much as you do. Think with your dick, live with the consequences.

In addition to what others have commented, there does seem to be a real terror amongst men about paying a woman after divorce. I've heard complaints about splitting a 401(k), which makes no sense because if they'd stayed married, they would have spent half of it on their wives anyway! I think there did used to be a lot more leeway in alimony laws, where a good lawyer could get a decision that would result in the man having to pay a lot of money to the woman for the rest of her life, and there were legitimate complaints about abuse there. But lately states (in the US) have been revising their laws to require "maintenance" instead of alimony, and the amount depends on a formula based on the two people's incomes (or imputed income if one party chooses not to work) and the length depends on how long you were married.

So basically, there were some abuses that were terrible, but even the worst cases shouldn't be compared to rape. It was never as widespread as male sexual assault on women, and (surprise surprise) it's being addressed (as issues that affect men frequently are). So the MRA arguments using it are generally in bad faith

This is an issue I've raised before. As a rape survivor I find the entire dismissive attitude towards sexual assault horrendous and it's why as much as they claim to be supporting male victims, they don't actually give a shit about us.

Not at all, they are being overly dramatic. I'm not a believer in alimony though just because a woman is "used to a certain lifestyle", that's just ridiculous imo. I do think that someone who was a homemaker most or all of the marriage should be given alimony for a certain period of time that will allow them to get an education and job experience. I don't agree with lifetime alimony either. If there are states with that, they should do away with it.

No, there's already an equivalent to rape that happens to men, it's called rape.

I don't know if the term originated in response to the overuse of the word rape by radfems to describe situations which are relatively trivial by comparison (i.e man ogles womans tits and or ass in an unwelcome/creepy manor = stare rape. Obviously it's wrong to happen and uncomfortable/potentially scary for the woman involved but it isn't rape)(Also it's entirely possible that example is just Poe's law in action). As a term it sounds just as ridiculous as any of those. Certainly I think men are more likely to get screwed in divorce proceedings than women and I think alimony is an antiquated concept at best. Though I can see a small supportive income being paid from the high earner in the marriage to the low earner post divorce, I think the duration should be proportional to the length of the marriage and amount should be adjustable based on the income of the person paying it. More importantly if the person receiving alimony starts earning more than the one paying it it should be discontinued. I have no idea if any of that is how it functions IRL right now.

I can see that in some instances what happens to a man in divorce could be considered a similar trauma to rape as a man may lose his home, his ability to see his children and raise them and ultimately find that many of the things he had built his life around have been striped away from him. I don't know how common that is though.

I can also see how a man may be bitter if he has this happen to him as a result of choices made by his wife and therefore out of his hands. Like if for example his wife decided she didn't want to work forcing him to work more hours to be able to provide for his family and then as a result he spent less time raising his children so in court they decide he doesn't need any custody for his children because he wasn't present enough as a father and he needs to pay alimony to his wife and of course child support because he was the source of income for the family. At that point the wife kinda has her cake and gets to eat it to as she gets her lifestyle and family financed and then gets to enjoy her life free from the commitments of her marriage but with the all the financial benefits. Our guy on the other hand still has all the financial responsibilities from his marriage but no longer has someone there to love and support him and gets to see his kids even less than he did originally.

Personally I think this shows why the whole 'traditional' marriage roles are a bad idea and it's also why I personally see marriage and children as the last step a relationship should take, but also a step I would take after time enough spent in the relationship to establish a home together and work out how cohabiting with your partner will work before getting the government and extra humans involved.

I think this sub should be renamed to Blue Pill because that’s exactly what it is. Bjt the divorce laws in this country favor women. Men often get screwed. That's just how it is because of how the gender roles are supposed to play out (men as the breadwinners and women as the caretakers). We Pay child support and they get custody.

There absolutely should be changes made to mame things more fair.

Rape is far worst, but both situations are about lack of consent by one party.

A woman can say she doesnt want a relationship with a man, and leave the relationship, if that man forces himself on her, its wrong.

A man can say he doesnt want a relationship with a woman, and leave the relationship, if that woman forces herself on him, its.... STILL WRONG.

A relationship is a mutual commitment, when that commitment is over because one or both of the parties fucked up its over. That risk that it could end pushes the parties to work hard to maintain it else be on their asses. Before women couldn't work or had lots of difficulty finding work. Im not talking child support, Im talking about giving her money because she is "incompetent and spoiled" The law shouldn't protect that.

Not all divorces result in this type of toxicity, and the laws have gotten progressively better. Its usually enough for the woman to get a degree and by the end of it get a decent job. Permanent alimony should only be used in extreme cases, thats the outcry.
