Yeah the more these terms get used the less meaning they seem to have. I think the most straightforward definition is a person who wants to be sexually active but for whatever reason has problems achieving this.

The real definition of an incel is someone (usually a man), who hate women/men because they can’t get into a relationship with one, but I feel like the term of vastly overused now.

I thought incel meant involuntary celibate, i.e. a man who wants to have sex, but can't find a willing partner. I think over time it has developed into an easy term of insult, or something sinister.

I think it came to mean something closer to an ideology of nihilism and mysogyny... So there may be guys that actually get laid, but since they, for whatever reason, have an "incel mentality" they're called incels lol

Incel is a term that has adapted to mean "a man with a violent hatred towards all women". A lot of the recent mass shootings were committed by incels with the purpose of hurting women.

It's like the word "psychopath", people use psychopath to describe any anti-social behavior, even though psychopaths themselves are one in a large list of mental conditions.

Incel is now used as an insult, a synonym of misogynist, even though the original meaning had nothing to do with that, but alas, just let them be.

How I defined incel is not only person who hates women just for not having a relationship with them, it's also in someone who constantly complains about them not being the way that they want them to be such as Hafeez from the Roommates podcast and him talking about how "women aren't submissive anymore and how they're more aggressive". A man who constantly complains about women not being the way that he wants them to be is by MY standards is also an incel. And to provide a more understandable example of this neckbeard who complains that "women aren't like the loli's in anime" or how are "Asian women are submissive and docile like how they are in anime". Because that's what I see, would I hear a man complaining about how women aren't submissive nowadays and how women are being masculine. An incel who sits around bitching and moaning about him not getting his "precious china"!

Words are defined by how they're used. 'incel' can either be used strictly for 'involuntary celibate', or for 'member of online incel communities' specifically, or for as the examples you mentioned, where it's used to describe any misogynistic men.

You can never be sure which definition a person uses, so you have to figure it out from context and not make assumptions.

I think many people aren't aware of the extreme misogyny that goes on online with the whole manosphere thing, especially with PUAs always putting this front of "male self improvement" coaches. And everytime there's a mass shooting in which the perpetrators is proven to belong to several of these communities, the media loves to talk about incels only, because people find it more interesting and tbh, more insane. So it sells more, society is more likely to believe these people are simply crazy monsters that have nothing to do with anyone else, and it also exempts them from actually digging into the root of the problem and providing help for men who are struggling with mental health issues and end up seeking those communities.

Long story short, I think incel is the most common, well known, popularized term for someone who holds some extreme misogynistic beliefs. So someone might use it to call out someone who's being misogynistic. Or they simply don't understand how deep this goes, they saw it in the media and thought it was a "funny" insult.

People use it to describe someone who holds views consistent with the incel ideology. Like despising women, wanting to be violent towards women, thinking women owe them sex, complaining that women only date the very top men and that's why they can't get laid, thinking women deserve to be raped for being promiscuous, seeing no problem with girls being statutorily raped, etc.

Saying that incel just means involuntarily celibate and that they arent misogynist like some people are saying is just a vast misunderstanding of the actual use of language nowadays. Just a bunch of concern trolling enlightened centrists. Incel is a description of a specific type of celibate who is 99% of the time a misogynist and blames women for his shortcomings.
