Social isolation. The rise of the internet raised generation and less in real time socialization. People are glued to their phones and take human interaction as creepy/weird.

Also I think some men less inclined because they no longer have to work hard for the punani due to hookup culture. I’m not saying its ideal, but men can get their primal satisfaction fulfilled through porn, and all the services attached to it. Some get warped views on what women actually look like; the ones they see online/social media may alter what they want to pursue.

Idk just my personal opinion, as a woman I’ve never had casual sex. Imo its too risky.

So the decline in sex has to do with marriage rates bc married ppl have sex more often then single men, were not getting married due to waithood, prolonged young adulthood waiting to get married buy a house and get a good job

But in some studies, married couples are reporting less sex, due to workload of both individuals, stress from work and financial insecurity

when you work 50 hrs a week just to put food on the table you're not likely to want to bang often

I think there are a lot of factors involved but I think the biggest one might actually be that people just don’t have enough time to decompress after work. People I know work so much, most of my friends work on the weekend, some have two jobs. When I do get to see them they often seem half awake, disorientated even. I have a lot of free time in comparison but that doesn’t do me much when everyone else is stuck on this late stage Capitalist hamster wheel. I work as a teacher and this entire Summer holiday I have mostly just stayed in bed listening to Chapo Trap House. It’s not because I don’t want to do anything, I do. But I’m exhausted from this year. Teaching is a very, very mentally taxing occupation and I am not paid enough or given the support or tools for what I do. I’m just exhausted.

I push myself to at least walk every day and to organize social meetups but of course, a lot of other people have work and when they don’t, they want to be in bed. We’re in an incredibly boring and tiring sort of nightmare reality. It’s a dystopia that nobody would write a book or make a film about just because it’s so damn boring. It’s work, eat, podcast, sleep for so many people. There’s no way we’re developing romantic connections with people. We’re too tired and too busy for that.

Porn. It's accessible, easy, cheap and requires no effort. Some studies have shown that men in relationships prefer porn (dead bedrooms) because they don't have to do foreplay etc. In 10 minutes they got their orgasm and they can carry on (usually gaming).

I think it’s from an increase in available entertainment. In Western society, men are expected to do the approaching. When enjoying oneself without socializing is way easier, men have less incentive to put themselves to approach.

But women get approached, so the difference in difficulty between meeting someone and entertaining themselves is smaller than it is for men.

This is only anecdotal, but I’ve noticed there tends to be an inverse correlation between how many hobbies and interests someone has and how much of a social life they have.

In my experience, dating apps have made finding sex a lot easier, and at the very least, less dramatic, so I'm not sure internet and is really to blame. I think it may have more to do with general maturity and security? As I've grown from 18 to now 24, my sex life has become more fulfilling because I think I've just grown and become a more interesting and desirable person to be around. Guys are just kinda fucking weirdos when we're young and sometimes we need time to figure ourselves out and decide what we like and stand for. Seeing as there's a correlation in the lack of sexual activity in these young men and their lack of full time careers, it sounds like that might just still be in an awkward stage of their development, which is ok. But men in that state have a tendency to panic about our lack of direction and see everyone else around us as more successful, having more fulfilling relationships, etc, when those things are often arbitrary or just not true. I notice that you're using the words intimacy and sex synonymously, when those two words mean different things.

But also, I don't really think 1 in 3 under 24 is really that high? It sucks to be involuntarily celibate, trust me I've been there, but I think society has done a lot to make men focus too hard on the acquisition of penetrative orgasm. There is a tendency to get tilted at a lack of sex, as though it's something all people should be entitled to. Maybe we're taught from too young an age that sex is something we NEED to be doing. Or maybe sex really IS something we need, and we should decriminalize and normalize sex work ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Personally I'm pretty pro sex and think there's something attractive in just about anyone, and maybe our sex education needs to be more focused on respect, consent, protection, empathy and pleasure, and more people will go into sex with an open, exploratory, and safe mindset at a younger age.

I said my dating life was fine because you implied that I might be struggling. I don’t use online dating as I prefer to meet people irl. My comment also had nothing to do with tinder or dating. Just that some men have also withdrawn. If my above example didn’t apply to you then I don’t understand why it was so triggering. You’re going on and on about something that didn’t have anything to do with my conversation with the above person. Maybe you were looking for a woman to vomit out your current feelings which is ok. Cynicism took over.

1 in 4 U.S millennial men consider asking a girl out for a drink to be sexual harassment.

Divorce rates are around 50%.

The men who do try to be intimate are branded as creepers with an agenda.

While #MeToo and #TimesUp did alot of good, it has also left many men paralyzed with fear that one wrongly aimed glance will get them labeled as sexually aggressive, one misunderstanding will label them a sexual predaror.

I can cite plenty of other reasons, but the long and short of it is; Men are giving up.

It's no longer worth the risk and the effort to navigate a maze of social standards, fight for high paying jobs, trying to get a marriage that has a 50% chance of failure.
