I wear a lot of band shirts because 1. I want to and I love the bands, 2. They look cool, 3. I know all the songs, so try me.

I have done this since I was like 15-16. I'm 33 now. Still know the songs. Once an older guy came up and was talking to me about an older band and made some comment that I probably wasn't even born yet. I was, though I was a kid. But the way recording works is that you can keep listening to old bands! Crazy, right? 🙄

This just happened to me 2 nights ago! But I was FDS armed. A friend and I went out and we share a favorite band, which is how we bonded. We put a few of their songs on the jukebox, start enjoying the tunes, and OF COURSE a full fledged scrote had the audacity to interrupt us during our obvious enjoyment of the music. As soon as the words “do you know…?” came out of his mouth, it was like my ears tuned him out and I turned to my friend and said “are you ready to get schooled ???” Like how dare this STRANGER think he knows more than us, who have been listening to this band for 25 years. What am I supposed to say? Oh thank you kind sir please drop some knowledge on me, what would I do without you?!? Thank you for talking over a song I was CLEARLY enjoying. Please tell me more about some random shit band you think I’d like. But now that I’m FDS woke, as soon as he started talking it was like my eardrums went into shock and could not absorb another word he said. Ugh the audacity

 I think that the podcast could do a whole episode on alternative women and what they face in dating. It is a pretty unique experience to us. Gatekeeping happens. Also, men often assume that you are into BDSM and kink. Predatory men gravitate to you because they think that you are unstable (an easy target). In addition , they will often only date you because they want attention from other men. We seem “exotic” like a spooky little accessory for LVM. We should be able to dress in a way that makes us feel strong and confident. Who the hell decided that listening to alternative music, and dressing differently was an invitation for all of this?
