Questions to understand better: how long have they been together? Can you be 100% sure their relationships are healthy and balanced? How old are they? Are there kids?

As someone with a sad, pathetic past engaging in numerous affairs with taken men, I can tell you that the social circles of those couples would hold the relationship in high regard, admire them, and think they are the perfect fit. Behind my closed doors, those men proved otherwise.

I’ve known numerous women who left abusive relationships while covering it for months or years.

You know? It’s not the norm for relationships to be healthy and stable...and happy. It’s just not. I think the FDS handbook says something like, “exceptions may happen, but you are not the exception” to try to re-adjust to the odds you’re up against.

I dont know many who dated that long before marriage (the ones that come to mind are my parents, who married because my mother got pregnant and later divorced) but I wouldnt be surprised if a lot of women who get engaged in the first year of dating are religious. Especially here in america there is a very large religious presence, and I know many people from my former church days who were engaged months after meeting/dating. But to be fair, when you meet at a church you know your partner likely has at least similar values to you, and its just figuring out if they have the same goals fron there.

Different lengths work for different people, but if youve been dating for more than 5 years and theres no ring (or a seriously good reason, like deployment or something).... Youre a forever girlfriend.
