I appreciate the clarity this has brought to my all of my relationships (not just dating). And I appreciate knowing the truth and why people act in certain ways.

But oh my goodness I wish I’d run into FDS earlier.

I’ve recently had to maintain some boundaries with someone who classically would bulldoze over mine. It was hard. I had to fight my impulse to text paragraphs, fight to NOT explain myself and why their actions were wrong, fight to NOT show my anger towards them.

And then silence. And I started doubting myself, my standards, my lack of explaining. “Well what if I’d just told them why it hurt me so much, or why they need to do more than a reluctant apology.” I was almost ready to give in. Almost. And then they relented.

And I’m so sad and so angry because it just shows that they know what they did was wrong. And it shows they know how to respect my boundaries. They just choose not to respect them unless it has exceedingly high consequences for them.

Before I used to think if I just “communicated” more, if I just “explained” better, if I just “didn’t assume the worst of them” then maybe it could be fixed. Because *I* could fix it. Because I can change myself.

But this isn’t a me problem. And I’m angry that the wool has been pulled away from eyes and I now realize that every time they treated me badly before, they knew. They knew what they were doing was wrong. And they did it and will continue to do it for as long as they can get away with it.

And I’m mad that I didn’t have the tools to deal with it earlier.

Anyone else get mad when FDS made you realize you’d been gaslighted, lied to? Anyone ever get mad when you implemented FDS and you got results when all your prior efforts were in vain?
