Has anyone here pulled an “Elle Woods” and gotten a “revenge degree”?

I was so jealous/intimidated because the woman my first boyfriend (and first love, and guy I lost my virginity to) cheated on me with, had an MBA, and I was so relatively unsuccessful. He said he was attracted to her because she was more career oriented and they could talk about stuff that he and I couldn't. I felt so embarrassed when I found out she went to a top program, and I was still finding my way, unemployed because of the recession. I graduated 2 years ago from the best MBA program in the world, unambiguously better than hers. Not that I even think about her or that guy at all, it's just funny after all these years, how bad I felt about myself, when I was the only person in that scenario not doing something bad.

Yep. He was getting me to move to Erie PA while he was in DO school (no proposal). This was after he failed a year and he was swapping nudes on tinder. I said fuck that and was accepted into 7 PhD programs. So I got to choose to live in the city of my dreams instead of following some cheating loser (who was barely hanging on in medical school) across the country. He's reached out to me crying when he had issues with his competency during rotations as well.

Screw that. I realized I'm a much more impressive student and I had graduate programs clamoring to pay for me to do my doctorate at their school. While he spending most of his time and money trying not to get kicked out. I realized I was far more impressive than "Mr. Big Dick Future Doctor."

SO DO IT. I started my program when I was 28. It's been so much fun so far.

Edit: Also adopted his dream dog and he comes to the lab to do research with me.

Yeah, why have kids at 26. You could probably wait 10 years if you wanted. You'll never regret investing in yourself.

I want to do this. I am 40yo and haven’t been to college in like last 20 years. I would love to get a degree in drug counseling/rehabilitation to help the local community.

I agree with others who say to pursue your own dreams, no matter what. I think that's the best revenge... Finding your own happiness on your own terms.

I went to law school and it feels like revenge against my ex because he told me it was "a very bad idea" that gave him a "sinking feeling" in his stomach. Funny how he never felt that way everytime he stole money from my grad school fund... but like I'd say to him now, it sucks to suck! ;)

My ex was a real estate developer and his family constantly made comments about how I was just with him for his money (even though he had no money when we first met) and called our house HIS house. I dumped him, went to medical school, and now I’m dating a doctor

I didnt get degree but i made tons of $$. With that money, i pursued my masters and currently living alone in manhattan.

That’s when i realized LVM arent worth a shit. My LVM is still living with parents.

I probably wouldnt. I personally think changing your entire life for revenge just shows how much of a hold they actually still have on you. The best karma is them realizing that they changed absolutely nothing about you. They were a single stop sign town in the journey.

In your case, since that's something you've always wanted to thats fine. I think it'd even be cool. I just don't think id go completely out of my way to do anything to spite a man.

But important thing is, when he compares you to other girls regarding career or xx, its big red flag telling you to avoid him. My older brother changed his career in his 30s and doing better than his friends who had set career as doctor or lawyer at younger age.

Don't do something to spite someone. That's a terrible mindset. If you want a PhD, do it because you're young and have the freedom to take on that adventure.
