I wonder how many of those “one time” rapists are actually serial rapists but the victims haven’t come forward? Given the way that county has handled the cases of those who have, I can see why women wouldn’t even bother. How incredibly cruel to take all that evidence and not even test it! Imagine how it must feel for them to finally convict your rapist 20 years later! In the meantime, the rapist was out raping other women. Multiple womens’ lives ruined because of a lousy system. Astonishing

On one episode of Elementary (I think), Holmes says that searching for a potential killer for hire can be done by just searching for sexual offenders. The mentality is already the same - no respect for others as humans. I think this just proved the show right

What I don’t understand is how a police force as well funded as the ones in the US can have rape kits languishing untested for years. Other countries’ with better crime clear up rates (although universally poor with rape) would love to have that kind of money.

The fact that half are serial offenders shows this is not women ‘misunderstanding’ or having regret after sex.

Another stat I read elsewhere is that half of sex killers will have committed previous sexual offences.

Never, ever be tempted to give anybody with any kind of sex conviction a chance as a boyfriend. The risk is not worth it.

Do you know WHY that statistic is offensive? because this is an analysis of BACKLOGGED STALE rape kits!

NO SHIT THEY ARE COMMITTING SUBSEQUENT CRIMES! YOU LITERALLY LET THEM GET AWAY WITH RAPE!

There are men out there who tune out about this issue because they think "i'm not a woman and i'm not a rapist (and I stupidly assume my mom/sisters/daughters aren't themselves victims...or I don't care) so this really doesn't apply to me". I hope those men were the victims of these subsequent post-rape felonies.

What 5,000 backlogged rape kits told ME is that society doesn't really care about the rape, and so we are left arguing beyond the rape to justify our demand for any trace of hope for justice.

Also you KNOW that women only subjected themselves to the kit if they thought there was a chance something would be done about it.

I bet there are pretty much no partner rape kits in there, this was just stranger danger and acquaintance rape. You know, the least frequent types of rape.
