Yeah I think it’s sweet. When you’re first dating someone you get excited and imagine them in your life, I could see a man with real feelings developing for an amazing woman he’s dating being excited to do something nice for her, to show that he listens and that he cares. It COULD be a shitty “she’ll be more likely to sleep with me if she sees I did something thoughtful for her, ha ha ha!” but I’m just not seeing it.

A guy that only cares about getting laid wouldn’t put even that amount of effort in, unless he’s one of those “only like the challenging women!” type of scrotes. But her update messages that they’ve been together three years now shows he wasn’t just trying to get laid. They’re dating and committed to each other.

I totally get calling scrotes out, including male manipulations in dating and to get sex, but I think it’s important to be able to recognize genuine generosity and kindness when an example shows itself too!

If I was beginning to date someone and they were all “I can only use such and such products because of my allergy/skin issue” I would remember that and make sure I had said item in my house if I felt like we were getting to the stage in the relationship where they’d be staying overnight at my house. I’d do it to be nice and thoughtful because that’s the kind of person I am. THERE ARE MEN LIKE THAT OUT THERE TOO! They’re just a hell of a lot more rare than generous and thoughtful women. We should still highlight it when it happens so we remind each other the kind of expectations we should be having of our male friends and partners!

My best male friend surprised me with like twenty Reese’s trees because he knows I like them and was disappointed when I couldn’t find any pumpkins during Halloween. It was just a thoughtful thing he did with no expectation of anything in return. That’s how relationships are supposed to work, whether we are talking friends, partners, family, coworkers, pets, anything! That’s what it means to be a good person!
