Hating cats is a huge red flag for narcissism in men for exactly this reason. You don't need to loooove cats or want to own one or anything, but if you hate a living thing because it's not a complete fucking sycophant like most dogs are, you're a real piece of shit.
[–]chickeneryFDS Newbie147 points148 points149 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
IA, and also, it seems like psychopath men hurt cats while building up to humans. You rarely hear about a psychopath hurting dogs. Why is that? I think part of it is that cats are seen as “feminine” in our society. And we all know that there are men out there who want to destroy anything coded as feminine.

Guess we have been meeting different flavors of psychopath then. I’ve met/heard about plenty of guys that claim they kick dogs or just outright abuse them. Plenty of people abuse animals of all types.

I’ve had a guy friend say they prefer dogs and immediately say it’s because of his own insecurities.
Anyway, men who can’t respect a cat’s boundaries sure as hell aren’t going to respect yours.

i understand preferences, personal experiences and incompatibility but i never understood the absolute vitriol behind hating a pet, especially cats. i've always had dogs and i love them, but that doesn't mean i hate cats. i love them too, they're equally adorable.

Big 'ol red flag. Completely disqualifying, actually. I can understanding not wanting to have pets of your own (I didn't have any myself for several years for various reasons) but I absolutely love animals. As you said, if a man doesn't have empathy for animals, he probably doesn't have any for people, either.

What about people who are indifference to animals but like birds? 😐

What does it say about a guy who owns 2 or 3 cats?
[–][deleted] 44 points45 points46 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
That’s a few + points from me. But I like cats a lot.
[–]shortoncacheFDS Newbie17 points18 points19 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Cat guys can be self-absorbed and particular, though. I disqualified a cat guy for taking it as a personal attack when I said I didn't listen to an artist he liked. Cat guys might be more likely to respect physical personal space, but I guess since cats don't disagree with their owners on tastes and opinions, cat guys don't necessarily learn that as well.

I know this comment isn’t insulting dogs but as a dog lover whose dog passed away a week ago, I feel dogs are actual angels on Earth (as well as cats) and so if you mistreat an actual earth angel you aren’t shit!!!! Imagine mistreating an animal and it’s usually men who do, how evil is that.

“Unconditional love for little to no effort”
THIS. Men want women to fawn over them, coddle them, feed them, bang them, clean up after them, today’s men even want women to provide financially for them 100% and not have to give anything in return. Men’s entitlement keeps growing and it’s terrifying.

Acutely and disturbingly true

This is true. A man having a well-trained dog (that HE trained) is a labor of love and shows a level of commitment and care that is very attractive.
[–]radical__daphneRuthless Strategist131 points132 points133 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Hahaha
Also think about the reality, which is the number of dogs that have been abused by men to the point that they're terrified of men and won't let men anywhere near them. Even a dog isn't so sweet, loving and undemanding that a man won't beat it.
[–]ManchurianCantaloupeRuthless Strategist86 points87 points88 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yeah. You never run into dogs that hate women. Only men. I wonder why? 🙄
[–]munakhtylerFDS Newbie65 points66 points67 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Men like to abuse whatever they get their hands on. Abusing dogs is just the gateway drug to abusing women.

Yep I’m going through fostering a dog and so many are like scared of men or don’t like to be around men, and I’m like same dog, same.
[–]0kfornowFDS Newbie16 points17 points18 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
So true. Although to be fair Im planning on replacing my ex with a guard dog since the only useful thing he did for me was protect me from other men.
[–]SpiderrGFDS Newbie[S] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Treat the dog with respect and as someone who is family and worthy of the effort and you won't be taking advantage of them the way the men in the meme do.

Nahhh I know this is a joke but there’s plenty of people who love dogs because they are a representation of what humans aren’t. My mom had been abused all her life especially having been an undocumented immigrant in the US and she always had a special love for dogs because they never judged her. As someone who has a lot of anxiety especially being an essential worker my dog is always a beam of light for me that a human can’t do unless they’re really special.
My Yorkie passed away a week ago and he was special, like homie had his tongue hanging out I adopted him when he was 8 because he was abused and I gave him a beautiful loving 2 years ago and he passed away and I know he’s with the angels in heaven but goddamn I feel he deserved everything and I didn’t give what he deserved. Even with my anxiety he loved me and I’m proud to be a dog person and I miss that tiny animal every day.
[–]ninetiesbaby16FDS Apprentice1 point2 points3 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Awww I’m sorry you lost your little furry friend 😓I’m glad he had a lovely life with you. That’s really awesome of you to adopt an elder animal. Dogs really can be super affectionate with everyone and are capable of unconditional love. I was more making fun of the dog people who don’t love their dogs back unconditionally.
[–]SpiderrGFDS Newbie[S] 6 points7 points8 points 6 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Ouchhhhhhhhhhh, lmao
On some realness though, my dogs have taught me about selflessness, unconditional love and acceptance. Not only receiving, but giving. I prioritize them over myself and as someone who grew up with an NMom, they were my first experiences with safe love and safely freely giving.
People who don't treat their dogs as living, breathing dependents who should come first because they need you to even access a place to pee, are shitty and absolutely the subject of this meme (like my ex). His dog "saved his life" but now lives a tiny life in this dudes dark bedroom, not really living at all or experiencing the world. He used to bitch when the dogs had to potty and he was "busy" playing video games. I had to inform this grown man that his 4yo dog should be vaccinated and see a vet for the first time ever. Selfish as fuck.
Yeah, I don’t like how some “dog people” view dogs as something closer to a machine that you can program to behave in a certain way, instead of a sentient creature with in born personality traits who is dependent on you and has needs. Most dog people are cool but the type that sees them like objects definitely lack empathy and purely like the animal because it’s sycophantic.
[–]PrettyPoppingFDS Newbie0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
I hope the dog has a safe, loving home.
[–]SpiderrGFDS Newbie[S] 3 points4 points5 points 6 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I mean, he's "safe" and "valued," but not in any real way. More like an object, like the dogs in the meme. Low effort, high reward. Less than the dog deserves. Trust me, I've tried repeatedly to take him in myself and give him a better life, but LVM wouldn't give him up.
[–]PrettyPoppingFDS Newbie-1 points0 points1 point 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link

[–]GettingOffTheCrazyThrowaway Account0 points1 point2 points 6 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
This makes sense because my exH loved and paid more attention to the dog than me. It even got to the point where I was jealous of the dog. How sad is that?
