I saw a video of a girl on Instagram with the caption "wearing this shirt again for the first time since that night" and it's just so fucking sad that we all know what that means.
Also: It's offensive to say "sorry but doesn't that happen to every girl?" Because it shouldn't be that way and it's sad nothing changes.

Wow your first paragraph was a gut punch. Yeah we know what it means and that's unacceptable.
[–][deleted] 24 points25 points26 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
It really is unacceptable and I can't believe people just think it's normal.

I'm sorry to hear that!! I hope you physically recovered from the car accident and I hope the mental part will come soon too ❤ you don't deserve to feel that way. I get why you threw the outfit away tho. Everyone is different and for many people outfits can also trigger a memory or make you re-live an event.

The night that something happened to me (roofied so not sure) my favorite cardigan was lost. It's always felt shallow to care about that loss in the grand scheme of what happened but it's something to pin my feelings of robbery from that evening on since I don't know what else happened. I feel like I was robbed of things that brought me joy. My relationship at the time, my favorite sweater, whatever else happened. The sweater is an easier thing to mourn.
[–]havingababypenguinFDS Newbie11 points12 points13 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I don't have anything wise to say. I'm sorry. That sucks.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
I'm really sorry to hear that and I hope you're healing every day ❤ I hope you've found your joys again!! And I really hope who did that to you will suffer each and every day of his life. I don't think it is shallow to mourn your sweater at all. Something like that happened to me as well and I can get why mourning a sweater is easier. It's way harder to think about the worst part that happened. For me, I always try to keep that memory deep under the thoughts of how the beginning of the night was fun.

Thank you! I hope you are doing well too. I'm sorry so many of us have shared the same experiences. But, I'm doing great now and don't miss the man, only the sweater and the money for the ambulance bill haha! I also think about the beginning of the fun night more than the rest of it.
[–][deleted] 2 points3 points4 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Thank you!! ❤ I'm happy we're both doing well!! I hope you'll get many cute and new sweaters as replacement so you'll be able to forget the old one 😭❤

I will make a point that, while any woman that has suffered greatly from the patriarchy should be a feminist, women who have only marginally suffered and have otherwise had a good life free from abuse and trauma from men should ALSO be feminists. It doesn’t matter what your life has been like. Even if your life has been sunshine and rainbows and no man had ever laid a hand on you, you should still be a feminist. Because we women should stand in solidarity with each other even if we have not shared the same pain. I am fortunate to be in a place where men are respectful and I do not face much misogyny from men at my workplace, but I am still a feminist because I know some women have had it worse than me due to the patriarchy, and I stand with them even though I’ve had it easy.

Agreed. Women who deny it or close their eyes shut are just as much contributors to the problem, because they either wittingly or unwittingly silence victims. I am like you, more or less. I do not have to worry about day to day harassment, but it does happen occasionally. It happens daily, though, and we have to acknowledge it and fight back.

I wish men would understand that it's all of us. Not a few of us. EVERY LAST WOMAN THEY EVER MET OR KNEW HAS HAD A MINIMUM OF ONE BAD EXPERIENCE WITH MEN BECAUSE THEY WERE BORN FEMALE.
Their mothers, their sisters, their aunts, their grandmothers, their fellow students, their fellow coworkers, the strangers at the bar, the stranger walking down the street, the register person at the supermarket, the old ladies at church and at the nursing home. All women have had one or more bad experience with men just because they were born female. I'm saying minimum one but I can easily count half a dozen times men have made me uncomfortable or fear for my bodily safety --NOT just hurt my feelings or offended me but afraid I will be physically harmed-- and that's the stuff that sticks out.
[–]Journalist_FullFDS Newbie58 points59 points60 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I try to point this out but of course its "not all men"
but sir, its literally "ALL WOMEN"
Reading this reminded me of more times I have been harassed by men that I had forgotten or considered "non threatening" and a social norm.
[–]gutsandgoreyFDS Newbie37 points38 points39 points 5 years ago (7 children) | Copy Link
Then they bring up that a girl broke their heart or cheated on them...it's not the same idiots. We've been cheated on AND sexually harassed.
[–]SuitablePerformance3FDS Disciple4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (6 children) | Copy Link
Makes me cheer the women who did it honestly. But then I know it's all clown lies for sympathy points. Can't trust a word outta their mouths, "crazy exes"= actually crazy dude. Of anything those women escaped these toxic losers.
[–]yggiwtmiihFDS Newbie-1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
Imo, low value behavior is low value. Breaking hearts/getting your heart broken is inevitable and a part of putting yourself out there for anyone who dates but choosing to cheat is gross. 🤷♀️
[–]SuitablePerformance3FDS Disciple1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Like I said I sincerely doubt their stories. And it seems every trash man shares the same crazy ex, cheated on me story. They use it for sympathy and to lower your barriers, make themselves victims in need of care (therapist/bangmaid).And most of these men are abusive POS, if those women cheated, and that is a big if I know a lot of them had to do that to escape. Even just emotionally. I give women the benefit of the doubt, for men I give fuck all.
[–]yggiwtmiihFDS Newbie-1 points0 points1 point 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Okay. 🤷♀️
[–]SuitablePerformance3FDS Disciple1 point2 points3 points 5 years ago* (2 children) | Copy Link
Lol girl this ain't the sub for men's tears and being overcritical of women when men do way worse. Also getting your heart broken, breaking hearts is inevitable? This isn't high school.

[–]werker115FDS Newbie114 points115 points116 points 5 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link

[–]FireflySky86FDS Newbie82 points83 points84 points 5 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Same... I don't know one woman who can't share some kind of experience like this. I had one "friend" tell me she never did, then proceeded to tell me about a boyfriend she had when she was 14 and he was in his mid 20s as some kind of proof of her maturity. She argued with me when I pointed out that he was a pedo and most certainly did abuse her.
[–]SquibFDS Newbie58 points59 points60 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Reading this is so weird because it literally happens to all of us, huh? But you just forget it over time.
I remember walking home in middle school and men would drive by and catcall me. Like every day. I look at middle schoolers now and they are children. It starts so early.
[–]MindeskaFDS Newbie4 points5 points6 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Yep, same. I remember making a post about it on a forum a year or two ago and all the men there just gaslighted me to death. They said there was absolutely no way that men were beeping at and catcalling young girls on a daily basis.
The fucking arrogance of men never fails to astound me. Rather than actually listen and learn about the reality of growing up as a girl/woman, they choose to believe we're lying. Like, why would I lie about that? What would I gain? It's fucking ridiculous.
[–]foxfaebaeFDS Newbie51 points52 points53 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I used to have two boys in my class that would put their hand on my seat right before sitting down. I was 16 and now at 27 I realized how wrong it was.
This needs to be addressed more and end the catering to males.
[–]hangingplaintainFDS Newbie28 points29 points30 points 5 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
Sometimes when I broach the subject of my experience being catcalled, some men AND WOMEN respond with "They're complimenting you! What are you so worked up about?".
I'm worked up because when I get cat called, I feel like i'm doing something wrong. I feel embarrassed to be in public and that I shouldn't be there. I've been cat called at 7am going to work, or in the afternoon heading to the gym, or enjoying an evening walk with my sister. It happens all the time, in all conditions, no matter what I am doing. I exist, I get cat called. I am just an object for men to jeer at - nothing more. Its not a compliment.
[–]elementalviragoFDS Apprentice[S] 6 points7 points8 points 5 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I wonder if these same men would still feel like it's a compliment if another man catcalled them.
Just kidding, I don't wonder. I know.
It isn't a compliment. It's a power play. A compliment is someone saying something kind with no ulterior motive. 'Your hair looks pretty today' or 'where did you get that gorgeous skirt?'
A man twice your size ogling your body and having sexual thoughts is not a compliment, and it's fucking disgusting that girls get gaslighted into believing it is. My own mother would minimise the sexual harassment I encountered on a daily basis. 'Oh, they just think you're pretty'. No, mom, they don't think I'm pretty. They're grown men thinking how much they'd like to fuck me and cum on my face. They are so entitled that they refuse to control themselves in public, and let teenage girls just exist in peace without being harassed and objectified. I don't want some scrote screaming at me when I'm just trying to exercise or go buy some milk.
It's really fucking creepy how it just stops when you get to your mid to late twenties. Maybe earlier for those who don't look young for their age like I do. It's not that you're not attractive anymore, it's that you look like less of a victim to predators.

I am 12 in 1998. I hop on the family computer and try to chat with a male "friend" my mom met in a chat room, exhilarated at my first opportunity to talk to someone on the internet. After a few minutes of small talk, asking me about school and my interests, his messages turn sexual. I freak out and immediately run to tell my mom, because I am 12; a child. She scans the messages and whirls on me. Angry, at me. Accuses me of flirting.

Can relate. And the prose was interesting, it reminded me of how Dr. Manhattan narrated events from his life in Watchmen.

It is so so sad that almost every woman has something to contribute to this thread from their own personal experiences. What a world we live in. And when we demand to be treated as human beings and equals, they ask if that means they can hit us back.

I was 13 when a man told me I was delicious and I told him he needed a mask to hide his hideous face, but it's sad he couldn't cover his disgusting personality. I was 15 when a guy whistled at me, I gave him the universal finger. I was 16 when an old man looked at me like I was food in a mall, and I tripped him when he walked pass me. I was 17 when three guys followed me from school late at night, I told them straight to “fuck off and go do something worthwhile than follow a girl late at night, so their brains could get the intelligence needed to get over their blatant idiocy.”

Made me teary eyed... I cannot handle other women shaming feminists too, as if they’re not reaping the benefits of women who fought with their lives for the rights we enjoy now.
