The conviction rate is significantly lower in the US. Currently I believe it's at 1%. Or 0.5%

I'm from the EU, a big "top" country and I've escaped rape twice (when I was a minor -16- and then around 19, in the streets, in public, with people around doing nothing to help).
Nothing has been done for it despite reports etc. Nobody cares and you're judged for it, saying you exaggerate and so on.
You can't 100% bring anything with you, nothing for self defence, or you're gonna be the "offender".

In the end I got abused by my ex boyfriend for years, years ago and I didn't feel like reporting either seeing what I had to go through trying to report the other 2 and being laughed at.

Nobody knows, except a friend and my current BF, and my therapist at the time.
I know the whole "you should have reported" and "think about other people, what he's gonna do" but I honestly didn't have it in me to say anything. It was too much to be faced once again with the "I'm sure you were looking for it" or in this case "it's your boyfriend, how is that abuse/rape? come on stop false accusing" that I've heard here.
I just escaped and never looked back.

This world sucks for all women.

I live in a country similar to yours, and it is incredibly depressing that we have to decide between defending ourselves from rape and possibly going to prison, or just getting raped. There was a news story awhile ago about a woman that got arrested for using pepper spray. They really want women to be defenceless.

I live in Canada and can confirm. Been jailed (not convicted though after fighting the charges in court) twice for self defense. I know that there's no legal weapon to use. I have a good sized vape I can use to knock a scrote over the head with though. We're not even allowed to use air horns here because they have the potential to deafen an attacker. Women here aren't even allowed to preserve their own fucking lives. I've seen men get off with self defense, hell, even the cops won't arrest or lay charges on men who defend theirselves.

With dual arrest policies here, domestic violence victims are hauled off to jail with their attacker. Poor women, indigenous women, and WOC disproportionately populate our prison system. Prison is for the poor and marginalized. Once you have a criminal record here, you're screwed every which way from Sunday. You're barred from jobs, education, housing, and even women's shelters. No wonder we're too afraid to call the cops for anything. I certainly won't, not when at least 40% of the force are dv perpetrators. The patriarchy is alive and well in Canada. It's our government effectively telling us to shut up and sit pretty and to submit.

Its the same in the Netherlands, and to top it off, it’s only considered rape if it’s violent in nature so non-consensual doesn’t count.

Also, a teenager who killed her attacker with her stiletto in France was jailed a couple of years back.

Our rape laws rest on whether the man believes the woman consented. Doesn't matter if he is high on coke, drunk or a rich kid in his entitlement - if his little scrotey mind believed the woman consented then Australian law says its not rape.

I wish I was fucking joking. Australian rape laws depend on how a man thinks.

Recent high profile case with a brave girl Saxon Mullins was raped in a back alley by rich kid Luke Lazarus. The ally was behind his dad's popular nightclub in Sydney. HE led her reluctantly ( there is video of her showing her not wanting to go outside) then ordered her to get on her knees. She protested she was a virgin. So he raped her anally.

Australian law acquitted him because he believed she consented. Luke Lazarus the rapist, had one of his girl friends (PICK ME HALL OF SHAME WINNER 2021) say that she often has anal sex on first dates. The judge then said " This provides objective insight into contemporary morality". The judge was a woman.

Yeah, it's pretty bad here.

It's a lot worse in places where the unemployment rate is higher * edited from lower *, drug use is higher and the DV rates are actually going up. There was a huge stink in my province because they "wasted" money on a "Respect Her" PSA campaign, because they felt it "blamed men and made them feel bad". Who the fuck do they think is doing the majority of the raping and beating?! . It feels like I'm surrounded by predators and their enablers.

Must you really bring your pro-gun agenda into this? I'm Canadian and I agree with the concept that carrying weapons should be illegal. MOST rapes are not violent attacks by strangers in a back alley. Most rapes are perpetrated by a person you know and trust.

But I agree with the general idea that rapists won't be prosecuted unless it's some high profile boogeyman rapist. And I wouldn't be against allowing WOMEN to carry weapons, but the problem is that men would steal their weapons and do usual male crimes.
