As someone who grew up and lives in a pretty patriarchal country, where such shit was/is the norm, thank you for sharing this. I've seen this so many times, and I so wish this stopped being the status quo.

I don't think it's necessarily wrong IF the men actually make money for the family. But they've gone and fucked that up so there's no point learning to wash the dishes when there are no men capable of earning money for a family. That's the thing with how complacent men have become, they just expect that stuff even though they have no drive, no initiative, no idea how to earn. Nowadays they just play battleship while their wife earns the paycheck and does the dishes. But yeah I think one of the reasons the patriarchy failed is that men are so unimpressive. They would be like "respect me I am earning money" and the wives would be like "I could go out there and make more money than you". And so they did.

Even if the man makes money for the family, he should be pitching in with chores. Otherwise, what kind of message would they be sending to the kids? We’re all human and we all should be doing basic things to pick up after ourselves.
No amount of money can turn a wife into a servant.

I think it's fair to put in even hours though.
If he works 10 hours a day including travelling, and you need 8 hours to take care of the kids and the house, then some dishes should be doable. You work the same hours, you just spread it out over the day. In the weekend obviously he helps.
I work 6 months a year, 12 hours a day for example. Most people work 40 hours a week with 3 weeks holliday.
It's the same amount at the end of the year.

What you’re saying is logical, but the example you’re setting for hypothetical children is a bigger concern for me.
I would rather my husband not put in overtime and we do the dishes together as a family.

I was in this situation with my ex fiance. I was in a bad place emotionally when I met him and he took advantage of that. After I moved in, he told me I didn't have to work he made enough. I did the cleaning and cooked everything from scratch. He made decent pay when we first got together, however no surprise became incredibly controlling with money. I couldn't pick certain items at the store. He'd criticize how I washed dishes, telling me I should do it his way. It escalated worse. If I needed deodorant or lotion he'd tell me I didn't need it. Eventually became emotionally abusive as well.
My sister married a HVM. During their dating stages her and her roommate at the time threw an elaborate dinner party. Sister is a nurse and had an early shift in the morning. Her now husband stayed and cleaned their entire kitchen for 2 hours so she wouldn't have to stress about the mess in the morning. He didn't expect anything from it just did it to help her and her roomate.

That's crazy ! I've been rewatching some late 70s shows like Knots Landing and my, how things have changed. Women could be grabbed by strange men, kissed by men without permission and have to get up from the table to get their husband a drink when both are having a meal. A husband took his wife hostage by gunpoint for 24 hours with a police standoff and he was never charged, The poor lady's "friend" chastised her into forgiving him and taking him back. We have come a long way but there still is more work to do for just basic respect.

Then again, women could slap men across the face and not get beat up by them. Not so today. It’s always fun to see the old movies where the badass woman smacks the dude’s face hard, and he always deserved it. But yeah, I hear ya about some of those shows. I recently watched Mad Men and those guys were all such dogs and pigs. And scrotes like to pretend that was such a good era for men and women alike. Sure, because women loved being second class citizens and cheated on and not being able to leave abusive, philandering husbands. They were trapped in their misery forever. Divorce was totally frowned upon. That’s why scrotes want those times again. Women were powerless. That’s all they want is take away our power.

This is amazing! I teach history through material culture and this going right into my lecture.
(The 1971 version of battleship just has a boy and a girl playing the game - not surprising as it's the era of Ms. Magazine and gearing up for the fight over ERA).

Well, my dad and his four brothers grew up in that era. His mom taught them to iron and sew their own jeans, sew on buttons, mash potatoes and wash and dry dishes and vacuum on a schedule. Granddad gave them the strap if they refused to help.
All except my one uncle who was extremely sick with I think polio and spent months in hospital. He wasn't allowed to do anything even when he came out. He eventually recovered, and got married, and his wife refused to let him anywhere near the kitchen or her sewing machine. As a result, he ended up as a sixty five year old man who could do many things, but couldn't operate a microwave, dishwasher or stove.
