Imo he is not ready for a serious relationship. He is still building his net worth and investing in himself. Imo he will not be a good boyfriend.

It sounds like you were weirded out by his house. And I would be too. He did not setup a home to accommodate a woman that he wants to pursue. Instead, it's like a nerd's bachelor pad.

Obviously I'm just going by what you said. But basically you can ask yourself, is that what you want?

Also, I am in big tech and personally know many of these young, minimalist SEs.

What do you want? That's most important. Do you want a guy with that kind of lifestyle or not? He may be completely fine with the way he lives, it's up to you to decide if you are. If you plan on being married/long term, really imagine life with this guy the way he is now, like the day to day and decide if it will add to or remove from your current state of happiness now.

He's a freak. There's a difference between thoughtful minimalism and leading an imbalanced life.

Choosing to make one's home to so uncomfortable for guests, without even adequate furniture, is something men do when they don't give a crap about having a serious relationship. He's created a space that's only comfortable for him because he doesn't want anyone else there. I am speaking from experience here - if a man can't commit to a coffee table, he can't commit to you.

Additionally, I've found men who live like this are misers, even if they have a good income. I mean, if he won't even buy himself a couch, do you really think he'd give his girlfriend a decent birthday gift? (The answer is no. He won't.)

Also, men who live like this tend to be crap at money management, because they don't learn how to use their money in a healthy balanced way. It sounds like this guy is spending his money on hardware and hoarding the rest like Scrooge McDuck. (If all that hardware were cats, he'd be charged with animal neglect.)

This manchild, no matter how nice and earnest he seems, is really just looking for someone to fuck him on his floor mattress and then go away.

I would find this unsettling myself. Even if he is a perfectly fine person, it's clear you didn't feel comfortable and tbh that's everything you need to not proceed.

(I also always made it a priority to never date a man that has no bed frame, minimalism be damned)

I would not be interested personally. The lack of comfortable bed and bedroom is a huge thing for me, he sleeps next to his desk presumably so he can wake up and get straight back to cryptocurrency mining. No thanks.

What if you have children? Would he give up his mining rooms and PCs so the children have bedrooms and clean, quiet spaces? Would he let you have a Master bedroom with no noisy GPUs keeping you up?

The financial independence isn't worth it to be living that way... for me personally. I need a home. A cozy, quiet, relaxing home with defined spaces.

As a tech nerd and minimalist, I find it disconcerting.

Nerds often struggle with social interaction. (I am awkward in public and struggle to feign current societal norms.)

Being slightly weird isn’t necessarily a bad sign. But if his “odd” never matches up to what you want out of life, then move on to the Next...

If he doesn’t even have suitable seating a guest (even camp chairs, FFS) then his social skills might be a bit too light. 😬

Tread lightly. Stay vigilant for other flags.

Cryptomining is extremely bad for the environment and quite honestly a global scam. We still have no idea who created it and wallets are constantly drained of it. It’s useful for a few things but I’d consider this a huge red flag.
