I saw that post and read a comment saying that was “exactly the same as if his (the boyfriend’s) dad told him that if she really loved him she’d give him blowjobs”. IT’S NOT THE SAME THING. In what world is encouraging a kid to “treat” his date and be generous the same as telling them to expect sexual favors?

My mother always encouraged me to be generous growing up. How is paying for a date any different than saying “I’ve got this, don’t worry about it” when you’re grabbing a meal/seeing a movie with a friend? The whole point is that you don’t need to get something out of it, it should make YOU feel good. Since men generally pursue women, they’re the ones paying in order to express their gratitude. It’s completely different to raise your kids under the impression that it’s not worth hanging out with someone unless they can get you off—one of these things is teaching selflessness and the other selfishness. How do people not get this?
