In answer to your question: there is nothing more intimidating to a man than a woman who is both beautiful and intelligent. Add to that her confidence in herself, then she will terrify weak men whose masculinity is rooted in oppressing women.

I dated a dude in college who told me, verbatim, "People must be surprised when you start talking." Uh, what? Why? He elaborated with a smile, "Because you're so pretty, but you're really smart!"

It was like we were suddenly in two different dimensions. He thought he was complimenting me. I did not feel complimented, I felt deeply insulted. It wasn't until years later I was able to articulate that I felt so profoundly uncomfortable because his "compliment" was actually him revealing his own shitty internalized attitudes about women while simultaneously casting those attitudes as belonging to other people, too.

As someone who is both, just like you, I'm terrifying. I have zero qualms with telling a man he isn't my intellectual equal. I also have zero qualms with the fact that I was smart far before I was pretty, and I have always led with the first after having been a late bloomer.

I've had clients who haven't met me in the flesh and sometimes they're really crappy to me over the phone. Contrary to a possibly popular though, it doesn't feel nice at all the they're suddenly much more polite to me in person because of how I look. I guess if I wasn't beautiful, I wouldn't be offered some backpedaling and decency, which is absolutely deplorable.

This man wouldn't have given a crap about trying to talk you up about what you do if you weren't beautiful. One of many examples of how some men do not respect women they do not find attractive.

He probably did just get out of jail, seeing as his social skills need a complete overhaul. Ew.

My take on this? He wanted attention and used a neg as a way in. Men know we are smart, pretty, successful, happy — all at once — they just utilize the pre-existing structure (the patriarchy) to take the laziest route.

Trust me I know the feel. They think that just because you’re very attractive and well dressed, it must mean we have rocks for brains. It’s annoying and now when men imply that, I block them or never go on another date again.

It's negging most likely. I once told a co-worker I do freelance work on the side and he said, I shit you not, "Like porn? That's what most girls mean when they say they do freelance." Yes totally, douche, I went to a top 25 university for writing & editing and I do porn on the side.

I also have an annoying grocery store guy ask me too many personal questions, to the point I stopped going to the grocery store that’s only a few min from my house. Said f@&! that and called the store to speak to the manager (I’m not a Karen, but why tf should I have to change stores?!) and I’m happy to report he was fired! I can now shop in peace ☮️

Yeah I've heard this way too much. And the best part is I've heard it from men who are doing well professionally and must routinely see women at their workplace. Yet they think "oh those women look nothing like you" is a compliment. No it's not. Those women are the women I look up to and want to be, so stfu with your bullshit. They probably seen through your fragile ego and make you feel inadequate else why would you speak like that about your own colleagues?!
