Because they’re essentially confessionals. A lot of the guys here keep things bottled up for a long time, and when they finally find a space like this it feels very different from the rest of the world. And they can speak openly without worrying that someone is silently judging them or labelling them with all the modern stereotypes.

The Redditors here also share a lot of similar perspective, which can feel very, very affirming. Hearing others say, “Yeah, this is real, and it’s happening to a lot of us,” is so relieving. For some of us who grew up thinking they were crazy for believing certain forms of sexism or bias existed more broadly in society, that kind of validation is huge.

The downside is that newcomers often arrive and repeat the whole talking points bible. If you’ve been around for a while, that can feel a bit repetitive and not very insightful. But most of the time there’s nothing wrong with them, they’re just saying these things for the first time. (But in all honesty, please be original, it gets to a point where we know who you’ve been watching 👀)

And if someone does say something off, the best response is usually just to call it out or explain the disagreement respectfully.

Because some ideas require more than a tweet’s worth to express. Not everything can be reduced to a pithy soundbite, and our culture is worse off now because that has become the expectation. Carl Sagan would be horrified to see just how accurate his predictions would turn out to be.

Because this is not a populist sub. The people here are not trying to find a populist political solution.

Because people are trying to create a concept leftwing concept which is cross overs and is not simple answer. If they were they be in one of the other subreddits. The problem is such an concepts starts to be academic and if you start examining multiple things and look for possible errors, assumptions, presumption, predictions, etc. things get very wordy.

I know its not popular, but good policy's are not able to be written in 400-700 words. Look at the human rights act. Look at other laws they not as simple when you get into it.

I don't think length as such is bad. But I do think the longer a post is, the more demand it puts on the author to struture it well in order for it to be readable.

Worst are the walls-of-text where someone writes a thousand words and never even uses paragraphs. That's just flat out unreadable.

Best are the posts that use headers and paragraphs and structure the text clearly with an actual plan.

I feel like a lot of it has to do with making the discussions a high effort post. This subreddit likes to delete discussions that are deemed low effort and usually longer posts are considered more of a high effort.

But sometimes there are thoughts that take much longer to express especially with these kind of discussions with male issues. You might need to go more in depth to make your point.

Autism. I've had the same thought about these posts. I'm on the spectrum and I believe one of the things that led me to being a male advocate is recognizing patterns and inconsistencies (ie double standards). My bet is there's a lot of other guys here like that. And we can be a bit wordier because we have a tendency to be misunderstood I think.

A lot of good comments here but I'd also say men in general have to expand more on "what they mean" and how to say obvious things that could be shortened in a way that doesn't turn people off or in a way that doesn't make him look like a "societal threat"

An easy example is where feminists will say "men are all monsters", there is no explanation needed nor societal pressure to give one.

Whereas if a man explains why he's felt attacked by women whether online, in-person, whether he was abused or physically harmed or whatever, he has to word it in a way where people won't immediately throw it in the "incel" or "loser" bin and go on with their day.

I honestly am more likely to read long posts/comments than short ones, as they are the ones likely to give me practical usage. Short ones are either going to be affirming or rejecting something, or just an arguement that is pretty petty.

My perspective is that the social and feminist web of lies, dishonest conjecture, and obfuscation of reality, has made it extremely difficult to talk about men's issues without unwinding that katamari of bullshit.

Anyone can say: "girls in schools need extra time from science teachers because we need more girls in stem", and the seals will clap and the money will flow. But if you want to say "boys are falling behind in outcomes, grades, and higher education admission rates", and people just shrug and are like "why would I care?" We have over half a century of social conditioning to disclaim, dismantle, debunk and address before we are even allowed to be listened to.

It's the whole guilty until proven innocent vs. innocent until proven guilty. A man has to show up and write an essay on why he needs or deserves to get any help, because he's guilty of being free and having full autonomy so every issue is his individual failing. A woman gets to say "I need help" and no one demands an explanation because she's clearly innocent of autonomy and a victim of society.

I completely agree with you, and recently this happens more often on every social media, for some reason. It weirds me out, like everyone talks like ai, I expressed my thoughts similarly when I was a teenager, but I think at some point I just got tired of it and reading so much useless information every day. But at that point of life I really liked such long texts, kinda inspired and educated me, and helped me to learn English, as it's not my native lang. I still don't know why it pisses me off in current times, when people write like that, maybe I'm just getting older and lazy, but something unnatural in this phenomenon.. but such writing smells like constant fear of being misunderstood, idk, I'd get tired of this. mb it's gen z thing, maybe people just like writing, mb people are just numb, depressed and suppressing own emotions, maybe afraid of downvotes. But I'm glad I'm not alone in hating this, this contributed so much in how modern social media feels even more fake and vulgar, because now they learned to hide awful/weird things and ideas behind beautifully decorated texts with fancy words, and it's just... ahh
