Sheesh…

I never expected this.

I'm two weeks away from the news. The news I've posted about a few times before.

My timing had been off before since I didn't really know the difference amongst "before treatment started," versus "during treatment," versus "after treatment finished," and all its implications.

I saw my doc today. He agreed that I would not be walking, talking, and generally participating as a human being if the cure were not a foregone conclusion. I have my PET in one week, I have my follow-up (by phone) in ten days.

I believe I'm cured. It's clear I'm cured - with all the caveats of what that word - cured - actually means.

Importantly: I have the hardest frame and deepest level of stoicism of anyone amongst this 25,000+ group of people. Seriously, no bragging.

Importantly 2: I also have fucking everything going for me - except the obvious - and I mean everything.

I have genes for it and I've been practicing. And I've been dealing with hell. And I'm insanely good at it.

So what gives?

On that note I ran into my original doc today, the one I'd developed the relationship with, the one who cried when we (my wife and I) learned that everything went from bad to worse to fucked, to uber-fucked, and then to ultra-fucked and beyond.

Sheesh 2...

So tell me this. Tell me…. Seriously, if you have something to say beyond "well of course, you've been through hell, what do you expect" and please instead focus on this:

I'm a little different than the average dude who stumbles upon here. I have so, so much belief in my ability to beat anything, and I have proven it, and I have done it time and time again, and I then ran across the ultimate 'anything' and I actually beat that too, and so that's the ultimate fucking craziness, and that's insane…. and then… this... void....

Why am I not happy? What is missing? What is happening? Why don't I feel like I've climbed a mountain? Why don't I feel like I've won a war?

Shit. I don't know how to answer that. Maybe no one else here does either (except one dude). Maybe this is way too deep and, frankly, depressing.

With that said, I've developed relationships with so many of you fuckers and while I'm like the pariah amongst you all and the bearer-of-something-like-ebola, I would genuinely appreciate some feedback.

I never ask for feedback.

Edit. Thanks for the feedback dudes. This post relates to rule zero as follows: Lately, weeks I guess, this quasi-anhedonia I'm feeling correlates perfectly with my sex life and desire, both of which for the short-term are effectively gone. My wife's fucking pissed about it too.

Edit 2. I realize that "happiness" was not the right choice of words. "Meaning" and "fulfillment" are probably more apropos. I'm sort of like a gun haphazardly pointing in a random direction, the wrong direction. There's no aim.

Edit 3. Look on the bright side, fuckers, if I do get cured you won't have to be subjected to any more of these god-damn irritating illness-and-death-inspired posts.

Go life.

Edit 4. Hopefully my last. Future dudes in a similar predicament, know this: (1) I won't ever delete my account or posts, regardless of past, present, or future cringinesss, and (2) there is some really, really good advice below - in the event you find yourself in similar circumstances. These are some genuinely smart and insightful mother-fuckers.

I'm glad I chose to ask for feedback.
