Wow the woman with the overused and abused toxic masculinity post is an asshole. It's toxic femininity that is messing men up. Men are scorned for their natural masculine traits by society these day because of toxic femininity. So no masculinity is not the problem. we need masculine men because without them the technological world as we know it would collapse. I swear I love my electronics and modern conveniences but I swear men need to withhold work in all important infrastructure fields and structure, dam, and water supply fields and farming and dangerous trucking routes. If men did that for a year women would BEG for masculine men again and society would shift towards respecting men again. Hell I got a lot of emergency food and water and can make a fire outside plus I love outdoor activities I'd survive that year.

Women need to learn to appreciate men again. Men should do that to teach them a lesson. I know this post sounds far fetched but I mean it at least I'd make it through well enough.

It’s so crazy to me how quickly the Feminist narrative on this did a complete 180. 10 years ago the overwhelming mantra was that men need to open up more and talk about their feelings. But when the younger generation of men actually started doing that…suddenly they invent new terms like “emotional labor” and “mental load” and tell men to stop “trauma dumping” on the women in their lives.

Feminism doesn’t actually want men do to the things they tell us. Their only goal is to demonize men. The second it starts to look as if men are actually taking Feminist talking points seriously they have to change their narrative so that they can continue to demonize.

Is this a common thought women have now? My wife has been through a LOT over the years. I’ve always been supportive: I listen to her, offer to help her with everyday things if she’s having rough days, and give her support in general. I’ve even gone with her to therapy because she invited me and wanted to show me how it works for her (different psych therapy than I’ve done in the past.)

Over the years, I have been having mental health issues off and on (long story.) She’s told me plenty of times “men really need to speak out about their mental health problems instead of hide them.” And “I’ll be here for you no matter what.” But whenever I do speak up about these mental health issues, I get told the same things the women say in the pictures - almost word-for-word. “It’s not my job to fix you.” “I mean, you can tell me about the issues. But just know I’m not gonna fix anything.” And so on. I can’t imagine telling her these things when she gets a mental health problem. Being told “yeah, that sucks. But I’m not a therapist so don’t expect shit from me” is a crappy thing to say. When I say “look, I’ll just talk to someone else (friend, family member, etc.) instead of come to you about it,” she gets offended by that.

I’m not looking for a pat on the back or make this a dick measuring contest on who treats whom better. But reading these things over and over again, it seems like it’s a feminist movement (she is a very big proponent on feminism.) It seems… hands-off? Like you can say “see, I _care about men_” without actually giving a shit.

Edit: clarifying that she and I both are mature enough that we aren’t each others therapist. We both have a long history of mental health problems and have gotten treatment for them. She comes to me knowing I’m not gonna fix her problems; I’m a partner who can listen and know when she wants advice/my perspective on things. I wish she would see it the same way without the “asterisk” attached with “tell me what’s wrong?*” And yes, I’ve told her that it bothers me lol

I post this here periodically, but back in college I had a traumatic experience with a lot to unpack. So, for the first time in my life, I sought out a psychiatrist. My college had a whole team for mental health. You could see someone specializing in women, African Americans, native Americans, Hispanics, gay/lesbian, or trans. I asked for a general appointment, but I was literally turned away because I didn't hit any of the desired demographics. You want to know why men don't seek mental health services? Because they're apparently not allowed to.

Hey Radical Feminists maybe just maybe men aren't the only ones causing problems for men, maybe just maybe women also share a part of the blame for these issues men face and maybe not 100% of everything wrong with men is always other men's fault 100% of the time. A little bit of critical thinking and nuance is what you Feminists need to start doing.

Maybe try to understand that it's up to all of society to try to tackle and help fix men's issues and it's not just men's sole responsibility. Just like how it's not only women who need to tackle and solve women's issues, all of society needs to tackle it and try to fix women's issues.

Try to put yourselves in men's shoes and have a little more empathy towards men.

I don't get it. The OP never asked women to help men with mental health problems. His/her question was: "How do you feel about men's mental health?". What I know is there are female therapists and mental health nurses who do help both men and women with mental health issues. Is that what OP was referring to? The women answering the question was acting as if men keep asking women on a daily basis for mental health support.

Secondly, how is it possible for a random woman to help a random man with his mental health problems? Is anyone even expecting something like that?

If my mom, gf, wife, sister, female relatives etc were suffering from mental health issues, I'd tell them to go consult a trained and licensed mental health practitioner and not a known or random male or female who might know nothing about mental health issues. I'd definitely not live together with a male or female who has mental health issues either, for my own safety and security.

Similarly, If I think me or a male friend or relative have mental health issues, we would seek treatment from a qualified mental health practitioner instead of expecting known or random unqualified men and women to help us with it.

Toxic masculinity, that is the toxic ideology of what it is to be masculine, is perpetuated by women just as much as men.

Any woman who won't date a guy who is open about his feelings, or will use his openness against him, is perpetuating this toxic ideology.

On top of that, any woman who refuses to acknowledge that women need to help men with mental health issues, not directly help, but advocate for it too, are essentially saying it's not a problem they care about so it's not a problem.

They aren’t wrong in a very broad sense. It’s up to us to recognize we need help, to seek it out, and to work on making things better for us.

Sure, some of the way they’re saying it is overly harsh and judgemental, but it still remains that we will only get better if we start on that path ourselves.

I think, in a relationship setting, neither the man or woman should expect their partner to fix any mental health problems they have.

What should be done (imo) is that the person who is going through the mental health issue should be willing to get treatment for it/take steps to help themselves, and their partner should be loving and supportive and NOT use their vulnerable moments against them.

Of course, there aren't many mental health support channels for men so, our focus should be on making mental health care more accessible and open for men.
