Does anyone else find the term "mancave" condescending and emasculating?

I never gave a damn about the word. In fact, back in college, I had some friends who set themselves up in a really nice suite. The common room had a nice big LCD+speaker setup, along with a bunch of couches and a PS3, 360, and Wii. It was pretty much all guys there all the time and hence, among my social circle of about 50 people or so, that was THE mancave. Great place to hang out at, and just relax and have fun without any sort of the pressure that comes when a gathering turns into a mixed gender affair. So whenever I hear the term I actually just recall that damn nice suite, and start wishing I was there hanging out with my college buddies again.

It mainly annoys me because if men used a derogatory term to refer to women's safe space we would be portrayed as evil.

I had a Feminist girlfriend who used to pick fights with me and then when I reacted, would say "oh boo hoo, now go retreat to your mancave."

That place where I'm allowed to have hobbies! Luckily my girlfriend goes 50/50 on decorating so we look like a half hockey-fan half my little pony household but we're happy. You're being pretty oversensitive though. It sucks but there's so much more to be mad about.

I don't think the term itself is offensive. When I buy my first house with my girlfriend, the house will be ours, but the "Mancave" will be mine. My own room of freedom and expression and total relaxation. However, the way in which the women in that commercial, and some others describe it as, IS insulting, as if it's somehow a bad thing.

I'm glad someone else thought this. I think it is pretty condescending, not so much because its a "Cave" or anything its more because people seem to have a need to tag "Man" onto a lot of male things/activity's, another example would be "Manscaping" for shaving/removing body hair or "Manass" as an insult.

I always hate it when people try to put "man" in a word: mansplain (explain) manscara, manslut, manchild, ect. These things don't need genders dammit!

I didn't think of the term as being condescending or emasculating until you asked the question but now that I think about it I see that it is. We tell our friends who have mancaves that they are lucky but in actual fact they got their little "toy room" so they will stay out of their wives' hair.

Both spouses pay the same towards the house but how come she gets full reign over the house and he only gets a room to put his things. The lounge is full of her art and her cushions and the only thing that he gets to do is choose the TV and then still gets moaned at because of some issue with the speakers and the cables.

Men are now the "little women", we are being told to go to our mancaves and stay out of their hair and watch our sport or play on our consoles.
