Masculinity has been shamed ever since I was born (I'm 38.) Back in my day it was negatively referred to as machismo or macho. In the generation before mine it was called chauvinism. Masculinity is always associated with negative attributes. I'm contrast, femininity is only associated with positive traits. Women have always been the privileged gender.

"Toxic Masculinity" is anything masculine which women don't like..
Its like a buffet..

Aggressiveness? no thank you! unless there's a strange noise in the middle of the night then you must be aggressive to protect me!

Expressing emotion? well only if its an approved emotion from my specific list.. other wise its toxic..Also, non-toxic men need to be the stable rock for women..

My argument will always be to people who use that "terminology" is that they can apply "toxic" to any word, that's a subjective term. Doesn't mean it's objectively true, if anything it's an opinion. Masculinity is masculinity and femininity is femininity. Applying the term, "Toxic" just shows the world how misandrist they are in my opinion and it holds no weight.

Feminist argument and theory isn't grounded in facts, why it's a theory and majority of their arguments are on how they FEEL and not what they KNOW.

I find that "toxic masculinity" is often pushed by those who wish to have some form of superiority over another. To be frank, just adding "toxic" to a word seems to be a way of bashing downwards, hence a bully tactic.

Thus, when someone brings up something or someone as toxic, I always ask them to explain their position. From there, depending on the answer, I can discern the stance on which the moniker of toxic is being given.

More often than not, toxic masculinity has been put upon men by those who are jealous that they are not the ones who are looked up to the role models for the male group or pure disgust at someone or something that flies in the face of their internal beliefs.

Honestly, the term toxic masculinity is bandied about so often that it has become a meme. Let's say a man does anything that is remotely masculine (like expressing boundaries or an opinion) and doesn't fit into this super narrow box of what's okay for men (being a doormat), and he's labeled toxic. So we have a situation where it's considered bad to be a man. This is where Tate comes in by simply voicing what many men feel, and - surprise - he now has a following.

Here the (female) double standard comes into play: If a man isn't manly, he's labeled with euphemisms like creepy, icky or even nice guy. But if he is, then it's alright - until it isn't (he stops investing time and money), and as a result becomes toxic. Men can't win, because ultimately this entire toxic masculinity thing is used to exert control and it's time to break free from this damned if you do, damned if you don't logic.

The popularity of unpleasant individuals such as Trump and Tate is a consequence I've been warning of for years. The same thing applies to - for instance - people trying to police people of certain races having certain hairstyles. Criticising harmless, innocent, well-meaning people doesn't help anyone of any race or gender.

What it does do is to alienate moderates - people who find the hard core of conservatism absolutely revolting, and who would otherwise instinctively support any initiative aimed at treating people fairly.

It's dangerous to assume we know what's going on inside someone else's head, and I'm especially cautious because those assumptions are made a lot by the forces of critical social justice. With that in mind, though, everything I know about the world tells me clearly that a lot of this stuff is essentially revenge politics.

And I get it, I really do. If you're a someone who's genuinely been victimised, or seen family members victimised, it's not that hard to comprehend. I understand the burning need for some sort of payback that you can likely never really get.

The problem is that innocent people are targeted and pushed towards awful politics. People with lots of political power - women, in this context, but it happens around ethnicity too - think they can get away with this sort of thing, that it's a victimless crime, but in the long term the outcome is increasing support for extremely conservative politics which is, I think, terrible for everyone.

Trump only just won. It doesn't take much.

Toxic masculinity exists. It's a big part of bullying. I remember sitting in the cafeteria in highschool when a guy called a gay guy a faggot as he threw an apple across the room which hit the gay guy in the face. There was no reason for it other than being a dick.

Less talked about is positive masculine traits, which still get depicted a lot in media, but talking glowingly about Captain America's maleness won't get clicks.

ETA: my wording about bullying made it sound like I think only men bully, and that's not true. I should have said physical bullying

Toxic masculinity is a real thing, its just some people are using the phrase wrong. Im just myself and unfortunately im not super masculine so I have to deal with a lot of wrong assumptions and people making me feel terrible for being who I really am. That to me is what toxic masculinity is. Honestly its just some made up concept that could be applied to anything around the matter. The idea of masculinity being asociated with violence and things of that nature is ridiculous. Just fuck gender debates, Masculinity and femaninity are somewhat subjective anyway.
