I remember being a young teen and going to a video store with my dad, and I thought this movie 'Resident Evil' looked cool (because 1- it was also a game, and 2- well, Milla Jovovich... enough said).

My dad replied, "son, girls and guns don't mix". However, I persisted and got my way. Long story short- he fucking loved the movie and thought she was badass.

Nothing wrong with a female lead in anything- movie, video game, stage play. Personally, the best female leads are always vulnerable in one sense, but are strong. That's also why Wonder Woman succeeded, and a movie like The Ghostbusters Remake failed.

I tried to watch the movie, it had some funny gags at the start but by god did it scone repetitive and the downplay of Chris Hemsworth acting like an idiot was hilarious but it again got boring quick,

I fall asleep before the finale, though in my dreams I finished the movie with an epic ending 💦💦💦

I'm enjoying watching the wide acceptance as a successful Hollywood blockbuster this film is receiving, particular in regards to female director, heroin etc. While the greater community seems to be ignoring the incredibly awkward racial undertones in parts of the movie. The assembly of the "rag-tag group of men" featuring someone of, some near eastern descent who's immediately portrayed as a con artist, an depressive alcoholic Scott who's suffering from PTSD and is mocked by the female character for it, and finally the Native American who they just named "Chief" and who uses smoke signals to awkwardly help move the plot along at one point.

Final note, if you're going to do a a historical "context" movie, at least get the god damn costumes right.

Yeah, it was oddly acted.

In the original, for every comedic line coming out of an actor, they neatly arranged for there to be a "straight man" (or woman) on the receiving side of the joke. That structure works. It's tried and tested.

Somehow the new Ghostbusters just forgot that's how these things work, with the result that it just felt like a lot of people screaming over each other.

Badly written and directed, or just bad actors? Hard to tell.

I personally don't give a flying fuck about which sex the lead is. That said, don't take shit that was created with one sex in mind and try to use it to further an agenda by flipping the sexes.

With Wonder Woman, you pretty much can't make it about "female empowerment" as an agenda. I mean, it's a woman. It's about a woman. You can't "flip it" around no more than you can flip Superman around.

Ghostbusters sucked because it was made with an agenda in mind. Mostly because it was a very tired and exhausted agenda about telling people not to believe certain things about women even though nobody does anymore. Nobody in the intended audience anyway.

Wonder Woman makes a killing at the box office? Great. Is the movie any good? Is it full of the flipping-300-lb-men-around-for-commenting-on-her-inability-to make-a-decent-sandwich crap that we've become so used to over the past 40 years? I'm so fucking sick and tired of that kind of crap. Female leads don't work when they try to mimic what makes a male lead successful. Nobody believes a 95 lb woman can flip giant, angry, fighting men around no matter the situation or special powers she's been bestowed with. I certainly don't and it ruins the movies for me. I'm thinking Lara Croft here for example.

I'm skeptical of Wonder Woman, not because it has a female lead, but because I didn't like BvS or Suicide Squad. But I'm sure most people'll want to say that I just don't like it cause Wonder Woman isn't a man.

Wonder woman was definitely overrated though. I would give it a solid 7, but rotten tomatoes had it up to 95%.

Spoilers: Some of the action scenes were really cool, a lot of other ones seemed really fake(CGI) or poorly thought-out. The beginning fight with that amazons was really dumb(supernatural warriors with vantage position lose out to a couple of boats' worth of ww1 soldiers, and they all jump off the cliff to fight them up close when they all have bows they can shoot from the top of the ridge). There's a really long period of "fish out of water" that was kind of funny and an even longer "team recruitment" section that just felt like it was dragging on.

The no man's land was both a really cool and really dumb scene(not only is it an obvious "A woman goes where no man can go" type of pun but, really, they established earlier on in the movie that Amazonians were vulnerable to bullets too).

The final villain kind of felt tacked on after the fact. Some of the soldier fights were really cool but also had these weird camera zooms on Gal's face in between cuts.

They didn't really do anything too much man-hating, other than the one joke about men being unnecessary. Although a couple of times they do mention how bad those soldiers are for killing women and children, or how they have to save women and children(which, coming from a colony of warrior women, you would think would mean very little to her character. Either she sees women as just a capable warriors or she seems both men and women as equality human and corruptible).

The undercover general scene was beyond retarded. A couple of spies trying to infiltrate a German compound would probably speaking German, not English with a really bad German accent.

They didn't really do a good job explaining why she is so strong compared to all the other Amazonians, who got their asses kicked very early on by a dozen soldiers with ww1 rifles. Half the time she seems surprised that she can do what she can do with powers she already had(like punching through rock), and the other half she acts super confident doing things that she would have never done before(like fighting intrenched soldiers with guns on the front-line).

I didn't dislike it because it starred women, I disliked it because it was silly, and not in a good way, either. I can't explain it, but it felt as though I were watching a live-action cartoon.

They are making more films with a female lead now and recycleing old films. Its hollywood running out of new ideas.

Some theaters did an all female showing as a marketing gimic.

Doesn't effect men's rights in any sort of significant way.
