No words? Funny, the word asshole came to my mind right away.

I would think "The Brown Welsh" might be a fun substitute for "asshole". Seems close to me.
(Due to the obviousness of my answer and the fact that I interpreted this as slight nagging before noticing your username, I'm compelled to downvote your question. Just so you know)

Alright I didn't really think Brown Welsh ment asshole.
(Due to you being an asshole (ironic that this is the discussion we're having and now you're an asshole) for me asking you a question then you downvoting me and the fact that I did not nag even a bit but you still said I am, I'm compelled to downvote your answer. Just so you know)

Lame. Don't care. Use your imagination next time, and your sense of humor ;)
[–]that_nagger_guy -2 points-1 points0 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link
My sense of humor? Nothing of what you said was even remotely funny just so you know so I don't know what humor has to do with it...You're the biggest dickhead I've seen for months here on Reddit, go figure with that name you have. Eat shit and die cunt.
[–]noprotein 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Lol, one more eh?. Okay. It wasn't supposed to be some uproaring, laughter-inducing comedy fest. Maybe a wink, other poop or butt reference, or most likely, ignored. There are thousands of references daily to "see username" or "ironic considering...". If his name was "plasticdefender" or "poodle rapist" none of that would even remotely be close to related to buttholes or poop or anything.
But if chocolate starfish can imply an asshole, I'd think that The Brown Welsh isn't a huge stretch of the imagination to be like "oh yeah that's in the realm of relatable possibility."
You found it so impossible to fathom that you commented. So I commented back but was surprised. Considering the millions of comments here why that one would be seen as such a stretch to be honest. So i had a go at you. You were defense and repetitive and equally unfunny so I responded back.
You kept it going so here we are. I'd be beyond fucking shocked and you'd be a liar if I'm the biggest dickhead you've seen for months. Try browsing a number of other subreddits (even defaults).
I bid you good day, you hypersensitive loser. You are awarded no points and may god have mercy on your soul.

[–]that_nagger_guy 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
Haha just last month or so I had a conversation with some idiot here on Reddit and she said the dumbest thing I had ever heard. That you can't call a woman an asshole but that the word "Bitch" is the substitute word for women.

Why did I read the article? Why? I really should know better by now than to read an article with a tagline espousing "feminist principles".
At least the commenters (on Guardian) seem reasonable.
For anyone tempted to, I'll quote the last two paragraphs, emphasis mine:
Over the past few years I've been asked, "Why do we need an International Women's Day?" so many times that I fear my answer has become a bit pat. "Because it's men's day every other day of the year," is my standard reply. Yet renewed interest in International Men's Day has made me think of the many things that could change to make men and women more equal in all spheres of our daily lives. This doesn't belittle the deep injustice many women suffer around the world or the casual everyday sexism that defeats them at every hurdle. If anything, pointing out the discrimination against men simply underlines how much worse it is for women.

Sure, I'll bite.
But you forget that not every adult male human is seen as a man. In fact considering that man is a transient state of being decided upon by an adult male human's usefulness to others in any particular situation… what she's saying is in essence "we celebrate male human beings being useful to other people EVERY DAY."

One thing I think is often missed is that women do suffer grave injustice around the world and massive inequality. Those countries, however, do not have feminist movements and western feminists seem to think that because women suffer in third world countries that they are somehow sharing in that oppression.
[–]dreckmal 47 points48 points49 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

Women are not special in their suffering, just different.
[–]noprotein 15 points16 points17 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
Gender/sexual oppression is by and large, a woman's issue though, but yeah, people worldwide suffer in incredible and incredibly different ways. Wish we were focused on making things better for us all, any issue at a time instead of constantly looking for new divides.
Especially when you're intentionally dividing those who are interested in your supposed plight. When you turn your nose up and insult people interested, you are privileged, regardless of gender. Suck on that.

That's what Feminism is for! (/s)
[–]miroku000 10 points11 points12 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
That is pretty much the difference between feminism as opposed to egalitarianism. Feminism is all about intentionally dividing people.
I, along with many adults and Europeans, agree that modern feminism shares little of what it used to. The fights for voting, equality, and to be treated fairly made great strides. There's now very particular things often far too complex to explain or "fix" with simple solutions, so you've got a bunch of confused, upset women's studies majors not sure what to shout for.
Ergo, patriarchy in the usa.
[–]Raudskeggr 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
The fallacy here is that we assume that these feminist thinkers are altruistic. They are not, really. Their primary motivation is largely one of self interest.

"You can't be sexist against men" is stupid to stay, as is saying "only whites can be racist" as you mention, but I do feel the need to defend "Emma" to a degree. I'm going to talk about it in terms of race because that's easier for me; racism can certainly be perpetuated by all races and towards all races, but racism by white people has much larger institutional effects. Racism expressed by white supremacist groups like the KKK is clearly and obviously wrong and not accepted. That kind of racism isn't the problem anymore. The problem today is implicit, unintentional racism. Racism that is expressed without the intention of being racist, but perpetuating racist stereotypes and structures none the less.
[–]JoshtheAspie 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
When it comes to being racist without thinking that you are Racist, black folk are not immune.
For example, the multiple beatings of white folks by black folks who claimed it was "Justice for Trayvon".
Then there is the subset of black folks who voted for Obama explicitly because of his race -- though there were white folks who did so too, and I don't think that all black folks who voted for Obama did so because of race. They were acting, as a large group, in favor of Obama over Mitt Romney explicitly because of race. That has had large and long-lasting affects on America as a whole.
[–]Mythandros 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
But racism is still racism, no matter how it is put forth. And regardless of the intent behind it, racism is still not OK. The little minor details don't matter. Same way with sexism. Whether intentional sexism or not, it's still not OK regardless.

Institutionalized misandry is demonstrable, but all feminists do is deny it or ignore it, even though feminism is a large part of the cause.
Go ahead, if you're really not one of those people, try stepping out of the box. For one moment, try not denying misandry or ignoring it. You'll be cut up by your fellow feminists faster than a speeding divorce proceeding.

I don't mean to question your affiliation, but if you behave "normally" (with respect to men as well as women) then by definition, you cannot call yourself a feminist. You are an egalitarian.
Feminism is hateful, you don't want to associate yourself with it, trust me.
[–][deleted] -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
No...feminism is a movement seeking equal rights in regards to women.
Egalitarian is when you support equality between the two genders.
Hate, on the other hand, is neither of the two and is just seeking the destruction of whatever it is pointed towards.
[–]Mythandros 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

[–]Crimson_D82 4 points5 points6 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link

[–]miroku000 7 points8 points9 points 12 years ago (4 children) | Copy Link
Many feminists would argue that "racism" is institutionalized racial prejudice (or as they like to call it prejudice + power). Then they would claim that since <racial minority> doesn't have any power that they can't be racist against white people. Likewise, they claim that sexism is institutionalized gender prejudice. They also argue that since women don't have any power, then women can't be sexist against men by definition. When you point out that all the laws that discriminate on the basis of gender favor women, then they claim that you have to look at the broader context of society. In other words, you have to have an oppression Olympics. When you point out that the vast majority of teachers are female and that teachers have a lot of power over kids, they just ignore it and say "but... patriarchy". When you point out that the majority of managers/professional people in the US are women, they ignore you and say "but... patriarchy". When you point out that the majority of wealth in the US is possessed by women, they dispute this but don't have any evidence to support their claim.
[–]mintealixious 3 points4 points5 points 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
How much do they understand the society they actually live in?
[–]Mythandros 2 points3 points4 points 12 years ago (2 children) | Copy Link

I took a race and ethnicity class in college. They said that you can't be racist towards a white person, or sexist towards a male by definition of the terms. In my mind, there can never be equality if terms like this exist in this way. Most angering class I have ever had to take.
For anyone looking at minimizing this horrid indoctrination, see if you can fulfil whatever your milticultural credit thing is by taking a class on the literature of a minority.
You might be able to get rid of one of your English credits too, minimize your exposure to vitriol and nonsense, and fulfill your credit minimums with classes you are more interested in, or find more useful to your profession.

"Sexism is institutional and manifests in individuals, you can't be sexist against men."
WTF does that even mean? If Sexism is institutional, then it manifests as societal beliefs and attitudes moreso than individual beliefs. And whether you agree or disagree with this nebulous statement of "sexism is institutional and manifests in individuals" then what does that do with not being able to be sexist against men? This is why feminists are ridiculous, they will say the most absurd things and act like their even more absurd conclusion naturally follows.
It's like if A, then B, if B, then C... and because A is true, C is true. But each "if" is completely bullshit and each "then" which links the two causally is completely fabricated or suggested by BS statistics.

"Classes," "institutions," "cultures"... everything comes down to the actions of individuals. How can you have blanket policy towards certain groups of individuals without recognizing you're enforcing injustice on some of them (if not most)?
Well, having a discriminatory policy can be just if it is grounded in reality.
Some populations are at risk for genetic diseases that others aren't. If I was a doctor, I'd have a policy of discriminating in what tests I assign, and not test for a genetic condition in a population not vulnerable to it, unless I had strong evidence of that condition, in which case perhaps the person I'm diagnosing doesn't know his own genetic background.
Similarly, I'd have a policy to discriminate based on sex and only advise gynecological checkups for women.

What you've said makes zero sense. Feminists use Government to give women benefits and privileges, and fight to keep pre-existing anti-male laws in place when it benefits women. MRA's want to abolish the many laws in place that hurt men and society as a whole, and are largely Libertarian-leaning, not Socialist nor Marxist as Feminists tend to be. We do not believe in mandating special treatment, we believe in giving people an equal opportunity rather than trying to force an equal outcome. We do not believe in Patriarchy theory, we see history for what it is, and what we see are the remnants of an old culture we call Traditionalism; a system that, while required men to die and placed women at home, appeared to be the ideal system to our primitive ancestors. We have long since advanced beyond that and it is high time that we stop expecting men to remain bound to their outdated gender role, something Feminism never addressed and has prolonged/exacerbated.

every aspect of feminism is detrimental to society. Even the superficially good ones like education and the right to vote and own property. Very few women, even today, have the mental emotional capacity to handle these aspects of life responsibly. Female equality is a farce.
[–]CyberToyger 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
Both genders suck at handling their emotions anymore, because that's how they're raised by society. Critical thinking and logic aren't being taught in school, nor are many parents teaching it, because so many parents are illogical and overly emotional themselves. Female equality is not a farce, it is society that needs to get its shit together and stop inflating egos and using feels to pass laws, and to start teaching their kids how to be functional human beings capable of keeping their emotions in check. It's not a female-only issue, both genders are capable of being taught how to be logical and to accept responsibility and the consequences of their actions. My friend Jan is perfect proof of this -- she is an EMT, she's better at her job than 5 out of the 8 guys on her crew. She's anti-Feminist, she was raised by parents who taught her the value of hard work and how to use her head. She wasn't "treated like a girl" at all growing up, she was treated like a human being with the capacity to learn how to handle life the way mature human beings should.
The sooner you guys realize that you're being the inverse of Feminists who blame testosterone for all the violence in this world, and the sooner you realize that what we have is a lack of proper education and an anti-accountability epidemic, the sooner we can get around to trying to keeping future generations from sucking as bad as past and current ones do.

Please don't bring that shit in here. I'm male and I am offended by shit like this.
Women and Men should be equal. Completely.

Well, he is Offensive_Brute.
He is. He's also a troll.
[–]TheGDBatman 1 point2 points3 points 12 years ago (1 child) | Copy Link
I'd call it more of a novelty account. A troll wouldn't announce his(?) offensiveness in an account name.
I guess so, but he seems serious about his views, surprisingly enough.

Troll.
[–]Offensive_Brute 0 points1 point2 points 12 years ago (5 children) | Copy Link
I'm not trolling, I'm dead serious. create a positives vs negatives chart, and list all the valid contributions women have made intellectually to society, vs all of the women who used reading and writing to produce idiotic feminist literature and generally frustrate mans effort to take humanity to the next level. Its obvious that it was a terrible mistake giving women access to schools and books.
You're wrong, and I'll tell you why.
We're all human beings. We ALL contribute. Women pay taxes, just like men do. For fuck sake, women are half the population of the planet. How can you view HALF of all humans as inferior to you? You must have a MASSIVE ego.
Women may not have contributed greatly to society, but remember, hundreds of years ago people SHARED your view of women, and while I don't believe for a second that they were ever actually OPRESSED, they were not allowed to contribute to society in the same way men were. That lack of opportunity is why men have contributed more.
Your views are chauvinistic and inaccurate, sorry.
And the ONLY way we are going to move forward as a race is not with one gender controlling the way forward, but with EVERYONE contributing to the same goal. Men and Women alike.
[–]Offensive_Brute -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (3 children) | Copy Link
stop with the hands across america, we are the world bullshit. please, just stop.
Why? That's the only way forward.
You're telling me you'd rather be stuck in the past?
And no, I will not stop. YOU are the one that needs to stop your chauvinistic and anti-human views. Or at least go somewhere where they are appreciated and people can share in your ignorance.
That place is not here. Please leave, I don't wish to have an idiot (for lack of a better term) like you causing problems here.
that is not the only way forward. At no point did civilization stop progressing because of gender inequlity, if anything many avenues of progress have been severely disrupted and altered for worse in persuit of feminist ideals.
[–]Mythandros -1 points0 points1 point 12 years ago (0 children) | Copy Link
I agree that feminism is a poison and should be eliminated. There is no argument there, but the rest of your statement is ignorant and stupid.
