The most common rape drug has been known to be alcohol for quite a long time.but whether a woman is too incapacitated on alcohol or roofies (floories? Lulz) doesn't make a difference in whether she was raped or not.

I've been saying this for years, though I wish there was a better source out there than Daily Fail for this message. I remember all those times I was taught in school or by the media to watch my drink, so that no one could sneak things into it. What they should really be teaching is how to drink responsibly, like not drinking more than one drink per hour, balancing out with a glass of water in between, showing how much liquid is one "drink" of beer, wine or harder liquors, ect.

Damn I hate when DailyMail does that. If I could verify the truth of the story, I would be very happy. But until then, I can't exactly trust it.

Filed under no fucking shit. I've never known or known of anyone who actually had the drug.

If you can any other drug you want but can't get that, then its mostly a myth.

I don't really get the point in lying about being drugged. I was raped when I was drunk but claiming I got the date rape drug wasn't going to make me somehow more raped.

I don't seem to understand how this survey was conducted--could someone clarify it for me? It sounds like the only women they surveyed were those who managed to reach emergency room doctors, but surely this isn't the case, since if it were, the survey would systematically miss women who were actually roofied but were knocked unconscious and couldn't make it in time for the tests to be effective. Am I missing something?

When I was a freshman at college I had to go through some basic "orientation". One of the things I learned in orientation was that "alcohol is the #1 date rape drug."

This is no big secret. There'd be lots more people in the morgues if the drugs were really so commonly used. What's usually happening is a cover-up for infidelity by a woman who got drunk.

I'm a rape crisis counselor and I saw a teenager once who came into the ER hysterical & incoherent, flashing back to a previous assault and threatening to harm herself. By the time the nurse specialist had arrived, she had passed out and nobody could wake her. Everyone - the nurse, the family, even the police - kept talking about drugs, and looking at her wild behavior as proof that she'd been given something.

They kept saying, "she must have been drugged," like a kind of mantra, and it made sense: if drugs were involved, then they could be found by a blood test, and we would know the truth about what happened. If drugs were involved, nobody could blame the girl for getting into a stranger's car. If drugs were involved, then as soon as they wore off, the girl would be ok. If drugs were involved, then they could be used as proof to bring the girl's rapist to justice.

I never learned the whole truth about what happened, but here is my guess: if a girl who comes from an abusive house has already been raped once by the age of seventeen gets raped again, she's going to be hysterical and incoherent when she comes into the ER...no drugs necessary. If that teenager wakes up to see her father enraged by worry and threatening to kick her out of the house for drinking and breaking curfew, when people ask her if she was drugged, she'll say yes. When the tox results come back negative for drugs but show that the teenager had alcohol and weed in her system, the police, faced with a law-breaking, lying, hysterical teenager as their main witness, are going to drop the case. And the fucking scumbag who plied a seventeen year old with alcohol and then raped her will get away with it, as per usual

Point being, surprise, surprise: there is a more serious spin on this story, and about the myths and preconceptions we hold about rape, than you might immediately grasp from this article.
