They can come up with all the fallacious analogies they want, but as many have brought up before, you could stick any group of people into their narrative and it would sound terrible, grouping people together like so never ends well. Not to mention, all their analogies are over exaggerated, in this case all ticks bite, but not every person commits sexual assault.

It's insane that this type of reasoning is so prevalent among young women. The 1 in X poisonous fruit or 1 in Y ticks does not actually relate to human interaction. It's a horrible fallacy. Not just because you could use it to justify virtually every form of racism, sexism or nationalism, but because people are not objects and there is a very real cost to mistreating PEOPLE based on irrational fears and prejudices.

If you treat a tick or an M&M like garbage, and treat them all like a threat, there is no cost. If you treat a person like garbage, however, this affects them in a very negative way. It doesn't just hurt them, it also disenfranchises and dehumanize them. Not to mention that you are, in all likely reality, antagonizing men(creating a bigger chance for a negative or even violent response) and alienating men(reducing the odds of men being around to protect women).

Well I think the problem is that sexual assault is too broad of a term . As a guy you can't really go to a bar without being sexually assaulted as well but when sexual assault is any unwanted contact kissing , groping etc ...... who hasn't been at some point in their life? Not all women misuse their legal rights but Enough Women do.

That seems to be a good counter for that. They are right from their point of view and we are right from our point of view. I think in the end it should not be some kind of passive aggressive gender war that world is currently in, it should be just a fight between good and evil. A person does something wrong, then that person should be punished accordingly, we should not look into their pants to decide what kind of punishment should be given to them.

Well that is my take on this. Don't ban me moderators. I have been banned in one other subreddit for presenting my neutral views. if my view is not neutral then anyone can contradict me, I am very open to criticism.

Ok, so I would like to discuss this with you. But first I have to state, I define myself as a feminist, so if you say that i shall not write on this subreddit, I'll leave and delete this.

The post is basically saying that it is ok to be afraid of all men. Not more and not less. It's not saying that violence against men is justifiable on that grouding, neither it is denying that women can be perpetrators as well. It is an answer to a discussion like this: A woman is telling her friend (of whatever gender) that she is afraid of men on her walk home alone from the bar and rather takes a taxi for 1 kilometer. Her friend then says, that this is completely unnecessary cause not all men are dangerous, actually most are not.

That convinces the woman and she walks home, as soon as a man is following behind her in the same direction, she remembers the bad storys of friends and family. She remembers the last time someone catcalled her at nighttime and this time some guy followed her best friend on the subway, told her he loved her and didn't stop even when she told him to stop and no one helped her. The time her boyfriend didn't stop even though she said no and afterwards he was sorry, but he said it wasn't his fault cause they were drunk.

So she puts her keys between her fingers, ready to protect herself in case of an attack. At home she talks to her roommate and says : "God, I am so afraid of men at night." And that person is outraged, cause not all men are dangerous for women.

It's not all men who are dangerous, but she doesn't know which men are. So she is afraid of all men. And btw that fear has no negative effect for men. Why the outrage? (Serious question)

I agree, that the analogy to an animal should have been picked more sensitively.

I don't think a curfew would solve much of that problem, because men who want to assault women don't care about the law. I wouldn't feel safer, but every man had to carry the burden.

We need to start earlier. Calling out every overreaching action or word, may it be spoken or done by a woman or a man. Teaching children to respect boundaries and define their own. Question our own behaviour and learn from critic.

Damn, you guys are really sensitive and are blowing this waaaaay out of proportion. The analogy of ticks does not lead to the conclusion "kill all ticks!", rather be careful in presence of one and make sure it doesn't bite you if you do encounter one. How will you make sure it doesn't bite? Take precautions, e.g. wear repellants or dont go to places where you know ticks are abundant. When used as an analogy to "not all men", the message becomes clear: don't let your guard down, no matter how sweet and dreamy they appear to be, no matter how much you think you know them, watch out for red flags and run at the first sign of them. I mean, you really have to be fragile asf to consider taking precautions "promoting hate speech". Y'all need to grow a spine.

I can understand both sides though, I'm one of those people who will make the correct distinct people generalize. E.g., Using a computer/phone a lot doesn't give neck problems, bad posture does.

However, I've been noticing when it comes to identity issues (sex,gender,culture,race) I'm a bit conflicted for the reasons like the picture described. To the general populis there are idiots who can't make the distinction and it'll go over their heads, so generalizing makes sense.

Though personally I'm still conflicted and trying to figure out if it's the only way to go about things.

Some Stupid humans have a tendancy to generalize things because;

A- it makes it simpler for them to understand. B- it fits their concept of everything is good or bad, black and white.

Most Smart human beings are likely to understand that generalization depicts an inaccurate picture of the landscape under study. One must look at the trends, the tendancies and the exceptions to it to understand something completely. Even that isn’t enough, one must be able to think critically and think critically from all possible perspectives in the realm of the topic at hand, even conflicting perspectives. When you cannot do these things, you are likely to land up with statements like, “ all men are rapists and all women are false accusers.”
