No, it isn't helping fight the idea that it stems from patriarchy, which is a dubious claim at best. That's the basis of his objection: it isn't comporting with feminist dogma.

Matriarchal societies prioritized women too. This is in every society, and ideologies like feminism help keep it entrenched while giving themselves plausible deniability.

I don't even understand the point he was trying to make.Even if his claim that the ideology of patriarchy is the root cause of the bias were true,wouldn't bringing attention to the fact that men are also victims and women are also perpetrators be a good way to combat that ideology?What is the problem with men claiming that they can be victims of domestic violence too? Also, with no evidence he is claiming patriarchy is to blame for male domestic violence victims not being taken seriously, while ignoring the evidence showing that feminist have played a significant role in preventing male domestic violence victims from getting the help that they need.

The Duluth model is a great example of what I'm talking about, and their is also evidence showing that feminist used methods to deny gender symmetry in domestic violence, but of course we just blame the "patriarchy.I don't agree with the notion that the patriarchy is responsible for this bias against men.His definition of the patriarchy is one were men have all the power and have moral authority in society.That is not what modern western society is.Women had and still do have significant influence in society.They are the majority of voters, they have more of a voice when it comes speaking about gender issues, and they are responsible for the majority of consumer spending.The notion that women have no power is a lie.Instead of patriarchy what we have is gynocentrism.

I agree partially. Yes traditional gender roles paints men as brutal beings and women as being incapable of harm. But let's not forget all the misandric stereotypes that's being shoved down our throats by feminism e.g. men are pigs, men need to learn not to rape, believe all women etc. And as far as men "doing better", maybe he's not aware of how much troubles and shame men go through when the topic of gender equality goes the other way. And of course he victim blames men as if they're in complete control of the discourse.

I don't have strong feelings about this video. There are assertions and no evidence presented. If I assume that all information presented is 100% true, I would still be more conservative with claiming a causative effect globally when it comes to situations that are clearly a consortium of complex human interactions, cultures and so on and so forth (i.e. more than just hierarchical in nature).

Actually I lied. I do have one strong feeling. I realised I don't particularly like the audience pov where I am being talked down on at such an angle. If it's moved up even slightly I think it will come across more friendly to me? But maybe it wasn't a friendly "bro" ... :p

Let's remove the word patriarchy for a sec:

In our society, we can pretty much agree that SOME HUMANS JUST SUCK. Some would argue most, some just a few. I'd argue partner violence (or violence itself) is never ok besides self deffence or to deffend those you care for. And one side is atm heavily attacked by said society (members in it). This can be due to multiple factors, but studies indicates partner violence isn't an exclusive side issue. We also know that the villianised side is reluctant to talk about the abuse because of societies expectations that the "victim" side is weaker, therefor often mocking or invalidating said abuse (my own experience, a victim to a deranged ex who was a moron regarding her false rape aligations against me, and got caught.).

And now we can see the villianised side flocking out of the woodworks sharing their own experiences because of a high profile clear cut case where their side was abused, and how so many in society justify said abuse and deny it's existance...

Patriarchy or not, society is displaying a gender discrimination at its finest: "if you are a man, your life is categorically less valuable."

First, fuck you. The implication that men don't care about domestic violence and that we're following this case for insidious reasons is ridiculous. If you're going to make an accusation towards men, make it clear; don't dance around the issue with your shitty insinuations.

According to feminists, the patriarchy gives men advantages to which they are not entitled. Men are apparently in power, or in a privileged position in society.

Wielding this power and privilege, men apparently make themselves 85% of the homeless, 75% of suicide victims, 96% of workplace deaths, and 99% of combat deaths. We give ourselves harsher sentences in criminal trials. In addition, men also give women special allowances such as assaulting us without punishment.

You know, I can't think of a single higher caste or in-power group in history that actively worked to disadvantage themselves in this way. I like to think of this as "Schrodinger's Patriarchy." When a man is succeeding, it's the patriarchy. When a man is hurt, it's the patriarchy.

He's right. There are even some men who post here essentially telling us to man up, and that women shouldn't be able to hurt us like that. It's ironically quite patriarchal, which is funny because it's something feminists perpetuate whilst also claiming "patriarchy hurts men".

Amber Heard literally said to Depp that she wasn't punching him, just hitting him and that Depp should have been the bigger man. Heard actively perpetuates the stereotype that women cannot do harm and that men must accept all aggravations to maintain masculinity.

It's clear people use "patriarchy" differently and one should probably define it before using it to discuss something.

Everyone, not men in particular, are paying attention, because: 1) this is the Weinstein case all over again - for years powerful people in the media have been helping a person hide her violence, the sheer magnitude and thoroughness of the concealment and protection is hair-raising, we are all amazed at the discrepancy between the facts and how the powerful commentators in the media presented the case over years. We all thought, men and women alike, that perpetrators can no longer abuse their fame and connections to hide their violence - we were all shown wrong. 2) The general public believes that domestic violence is done by men to women and not the other way, and any public refutation of a general belief draws attention from people (of any sex). 3) Both are celebrities... I know it's a hard reality, but ordinary human beings like the rest of us don't receive public attention when things happen to us, not because we are women or men but because... nobody knows we even exist. 4) And I think after for five years since me too started thousands of women - many of them not famous - received a lot of public attention for crimes against them, it's not exactly fair to claim "why haven't you said anything when a woman suffered form a violent man". We have... I think it's even safe to say that the Depp case receives thus far much less public attention compared to stories of women from the last five years. And I think it's because this specific new Weinstein has not yet been overthrown - her violence is still backed and protected by almost all the powerful reporters and commentators in the media, who continue even now to help hiding her actions with columns and reports that misrepresent intentionally what she is and what she's done.
