What actually made those people think it's ok to literally discriminate males who want to do STEM research as an actual job is beyond me.

I never saw a STEM research group go on like "We want to teach you... ONLY IF YOU'RE MALE AND YOU HATE WOMEN", yet, all the people babbling about the lack of women in stem research are trying their hardest to make it sound this way... and it's weird. I mean, who would unironically do this?

There is a lot to say but I'm getting sleepy so I will stick to the end of the article.....

Erin Buzuvis, a Title IX expert and law professor at Western New England University, said she questioned whether the recent surge in complaints about single-gender programs was motivated by a larger desire to attack Title IX.

I think it's just that, compared to 10 years ago, people have much more access to internet and information. Now, they can see what in practice Title IX do. And obviously you will have people who rise up against injustice. As for the accusation that all of it is part of a conspiracy to stop women's advancment by the Trump administration...Why make it about stopping women's advancement when the whole problem here is about how men's advancement has been hindered unfairly. Of course, I can concede one thing. If it had been Clinton who won the election, then fighting for equality for men would be harder and maybe this blow up of protestation on Title IX would have been delayed.

lol a camp named Girls in Engineering, but its not discriminatory.

Like making a company called "Google for men" with subtltle "women need not apply", and yet claim they actually accept women who apply.

the fact that they need female only stem programs in order to compete is really pathetic . I'm in college for mechanical engineering right now and there are 62 males and only 8 females in our class . These numbers should tell something .

I say let them. And then when they realize how much they actually dont want to be in stem or the likes the programs will get defunded due to people either quitting or low interest and be shunned out of existence.

Nothing says i told you so better then letting them prove it themselves that they dont want this. It worked so well with the google thing about mens pay lol.

so because one gender CHOOSES not to participate, it's "permissible" to sexually discriminate ?

So what "conditions" are so bad that sexual discrimination is apparently the only solution ?

I really, truly don't understand how people can be so blind to discrimination. I really don't. I understand how it works, I understand the basic paychology of it but I seriously don't get how people can claim ignorance to '____-only' being discriminatory. Gender quotas are cancer, and so are the people who push them.

Something i have always wondered they always say they do these things in the name of equality so one sex doesn't have majority members...where are all the scholarships for male nurses, male teachers, child care workers, any female dominated field?

Women don't choose STEM. You wanted women to have freedom of choice for their lives. They don't choose STEM. All the free money in the world won't make them. Besides, college admissions, especially for STEM, is already heavily slanted towards women. I knew one girl who got in that didn't even remember what engineering discipline she applied for. I can't tell you how many female engineers I know who are bobbleheads who clearly got the boys to do their homework for them.

First of all, it should be astonishing, should it not, that not only are female researchers in the majority of people speaking out - but even they tend to speak on condition of anonymity. Men, despite all the power they have, clam up.

Second, the hard sciences are the field where it is the most difficult to discriminate covertly. Results count, regardless of gender to a much larger extent than in the social sciences and humanities. So to the extent there is systematic discrimination against women, we would expect it to flourish in the latter. Why is no one looking for evidence of that flourishing?

At any rate, we need more people in the hard sciences, period. If addressing women and girls yield positive results, then I am all for it. But we should stop when we risk jeopardising the meritocracy that made US science so great and our world so rich in the first place.

I'm in stem despite all the messaging telling me to get out. It's done a huge number on my self esteem and I've often thought about switching out even though I've always been vastly stronger in math and other science related fields. No one cares how above average you are if you're a man in those fields. They want you gone. It carries into the job market too with companies always holding special "women in tech" event. It's made me feel as if there's no space for me to have that passion for tech and I fantasize about doing literally anything else that won't have people trying to kick me out the door.

I'm so glad there's any bit of progress for this stuff.

So women get more grants and funding to go to college than men, get their degree in higher numbers than men, leave the field they chose because “reasons”, then say “there isn’t enough women in this field because patriarchy!”. All these women only programs and goal post moving to give the illusion of equality. It’s so forced.

Wtf more do they want? You want to know why the numbers are so in their favor? Because people keep moving goal posts assuming men are so ingrained with the “patriarchy” we automatically get awesome jobs as soon as we turn 18 and that we need zero help in doing so.

America is a gynocentric country. Has been for a very long time. We are leaving our young men behind. They are being told everything they do is wrong or toxic. They are told to let out their feelings, UNLESS those feelings aren’t going along with the narrative than you’re accused of some “-ism”. They are being told they are privileged and don’t need anymore help while quietly they are left behind. They are told they should be ashamed of who they are and what they think. They are told they are threats.

More men need to start standing up and fighting this bullshit!

Despite how obviously sexist this is, I wonder how a women's only STEM college program would raise the amount of women who decide to go into a STEM field. Maybe there would be a slight increase of women who go into such a program but would that really be a significant increase? How would somone who studied for example mathematics for women compare to somone who just studied normal mathematics in the job market? (this could lead to some pretty unfair situations in which women who go to a womens-only program could either get less chances at a good job in their field or they could have more chances then their male and female counterparts in normal STEM fields) How many of the women in that program would just come over from a normal STEM program? The only thing they would achieve with this would be a segregation between the sexes in the STEM fields. Maybe they should try to organize some school programms/events that try to get young women interested in STEM fields instead of lazy shit like this but that would mean that they cared and weren't just men hating harpies.

Pretty sure there are thousands of other colleges that accept males so what's the issue here ?
