If I could offer my two cents - The #YesAllWomen trend is not specifically aimed at being a woman in general, but being a woman facing the culture of violence against women. It is a response to the "Not all men..." argument.

It doesn't belittle any of the concerns in your example tweets, nor does it threaten them, it is discussing a specific issue. I find most of your points in those tweets to be quite valid, but they are not relevant to the #YesAllWomen trend. I hope you can see my point and know that I am not trying to tell you that you're wrong and your rights don't matter, but that in this instance they are mutually exclusive.

This isn't a very strong point. Women who don't present according to their gender standards (i.e. have a shaved head or other "man" haircut, don't shave legs or armpits, wear "dykey" clothes etc) still get called dykes and face abuse for it as men who don't fit their standard. It's just that their standard has more flexibility in some respects.

If I might offer my own personal take on the situation.... After 911, the Boston Bombings, the Sandy Hook shootings, or any kind of mass shooting really, there's an established pattern of flag waving that goes on. The victims rise up and say "You will not defeat us. You will not scare us." Etc.

It is my own personal belief that if Men's Rights groups try to use this as a sounding board, in essence pointing out that they feel women are unfairly favored in our society, immediately after they were intentionally targeted by a madman with an ACTUAL misogynistic agenda, I have a feeling you will only solidify the belief that Men's Rights groups are hate groups.

There's already a group in existence that rubs salt in the wounds of those grieving blameless victims. We don't need another Westboro Baptist Church telling people they deserved to die because....X, Y, Z.

You could just as easily start a "#yesallmen" trend, with men sharing their experiences of the sexism, discrimination and double-standards they have had to deal with their entire lives because they were men. Women don't have a monopoly on sexism(not even close) and this "#yesallwomen" campaign is just absurdly trying to present it as such.

If you ever bothered to listen to feminists you'd find that most of us advocate against all circumcision, mandatory military service, and the dangerous myth of aggressive masculinity that leaves men who don't conform feeling inadequate. We support male victims of rape. All of these supposed "benefits" of being a woman that you list exist because of patriarchy, not feminism. If equality is what you want, you're fighting on the wrong side.

this does not apply & has nothing to do with having a vagina. this is pure statistics. men are in more accidents than girls, that's why we pay higher premiums.

this is the same nonsense claim that girls made about health insurance because they USED to pay more for health insurance, which was based on pure statistics because they use it more. obamacare, has a male penalty because now we are subsidizing their healthcare use & they pay less.

I love a lot of the points here. There is definitely a lot of inequality to go around and it all needs to be fully addressed if we want to make any progress to equality. I would however like to address a few common misconceptions, or myths if you will. Being accurate is good, no?

"Being able to wear manly clothes or feminine clothes, without being called a faggot or having your sexuality questioned." There are a few things that need to be said here. First, any time I have worn loose fitting pants in combo with a shirt that isn't tit flattering, I am immediately judged as socially inept, and/or have my sexuality labeled (lesbian/dyke), by any number of people in a crowd or group except 0. Homophobes don't just affect men. Also, on a side note, I cannot find a pair of jeans in my gender that don't hug my ass and crotch. Rude. A common suggestion that all pants are masculine is flawed in modern day fashion. My skin tight, high waisted, pink pants are definitely not more masculine than feminine. I have seen plenty of guys wearing very feminine shoes and very pretty and slender clothing made for their body type without being called out. Just not skirts or dresses or stilettos. Because, well, most dresses and skirts are made for female hip structure. And boobs. Also boobs. Not just boobs though. A majority of dresses are made for boobs squeezed in a restricting push up bra. Togas and kilts and robes and tunics are good examples of similar clothing made for a male body type. These are all terribly outdated of course, but still perfectly wearable in public. Just throw glitter on that bitch and walk like you own it.

"Having domestic shelters for your gender, and being taken seriously if you were in an abusive relationship." Men undeniably have a MUCH harder time with this then women. However, women in these situations are still often subject to harsh accusations and judgements and doubts. This should not be discounted. Real people have had these experiences. And it is terrible every time it happens to anyone.

"Having it be socially acceptable to slap a man, if you ever feel offended by his opinion." This is actually true. And it sucks. But I'm commenting anyway cause I want to. Personally, I think it should be fine to slap anyone as long as you don't hit so hard that you would break or damage anything with their particular bone structure. Sometimes people need to be slapped. Though everyone should be taught discipline and restraint. Anything so extreme should only be for an extreme overstepping of boundaries.

"Not having people tell you “check your privileges” or “female privileges”." Actually I get this bullshit all the time and it pisses me off.

"Not having to deal with people say “you’re lucky” or “I wish I were you”, if you was raped by a man." People seem to be frighteningly unconcerned with guys getting raped. This is definitely a very shocking and major issue for your gender. Though it is not to the same widespread level, the aforementioned "why so upset" attitude still occurs with the other gender. It occurs most frequently in instances of nonviolent rape, and I believe I can recall it going on with the violent rape from an athlete of sorts as well. "You should be happy" or "I'm jealous" or even victim blaming happens most commonly when the perpetrator is a well liked or attractive male. Actually, victim blaming happens all the time anyway. "You were asking for it."

"Not having people assume that your gay or view you as having a mental illness, just because you’re a virgin or choose not to have sex anytime it’s offered." People would consistently look at me like I was a space alien when I told them I was a virgin at just 18. Some of them even confessed later that they thought there was something wrong with me. "You're just so pretty we thought that if you were a virgin(and not religious) that there had to be something wrong with you! lol" Haha. Being treated different is fun. As far as turning down the sex offers go... that's a completely different set of problems. The ratio of guys who approach me that will. not. stop. is downright staggering. (though I don't have the apparently common problem of being treated like a bitch for rejecting it) And some do assume that I'm gay, but I think that's just a defense mechanism to their ego.

On a side note, being born with a vagina means that I get labeled as crazy based on that alone anyway! Constantly! Within an instant! I try not to talk to those people.

All in all, good post. More people need to be informed.

It's not all men that are terrible people, but it is all women that have been harassed/raped by men. If you think this is about you, it's because you're not listening. Only men could take a movement about women's empowerment and turn it around to be about men.

It's about being able to walk down the street with your girls and not getting harassed by random men unless you wear a fake ring suggesting you already "belong to another man". Because a woman just saying "no" is not enough to get some men to back off. It's not all men, but it is ALL women.

It's about the women who file rape charges and the first question asked is "what were you wearing?". Because even wearing a burka is "asking for it" because some men are animals and are excused from acting this way. It's not ALL men, but ALL women have had to deal with it.

It's like saying 10% of the M&M's in this bowl are poisoned, but not all of them. Go ahead and eat them. 90% of them are okay. That doesn't take away from the 10% that will kill you. And you can't tell them apart just by looking at them. You can't say "Just the red ones are poisoned, I can just avoid those." Because it's not that easy. It's not just the red ones. It's a random 10%.

Because the number 1 thing women have to worry about is men, second is heart disease. Because shark attacks happen significantly less likely even if you're swimming in shark infested waters on a regular basis, but fear of being eaten by sharks is considered logical, but 1 in 6 men will rape a woman and fear of being raped is considered crazy and bitchy.

If you still think it's not a problem, you're part of the problem because you're not listening.
