I was watching this 1980s teen drama Some Kind Of Wonderful, it's corny but it's also endearing. the main character is a beta pursuing a fancy girl and being oblivious to her tomboy friend's interest in him.

This is what TRP resolutely refuses to understand. The tomgirl character's boy best friend was the best for her, as she defined best, not as "society" or "girls" defined it. She doesn't give a fuck what the rest of the girls think is "best;" she just wants the best for her.

Tomboys are just as subject to hypergamy as the Staciest Stacy you ever did see in all your life. They just don't define "best" the same way that Stacey does.

Are there still tomboys? This isn't the 90s, kids arent tramping around through the backwoods in their overalls with fishing rods or knapsacks slung over one shoulder.

If you're talking about girls who prefer to hang out with the guys... most of them I've seen tend to be slutty and fuck their way through the friend group.

Anyways I do think the question is right, they seem (at least my mom and my close friend) are less materialistic.

Well I just got off reading the synopsis of that movie then came here and bam, there it is again.

I’ve seen it before, I think it has such a shitty premise and resolution.

The tomboy girl just happily accepts the gift the guy got for the popular girl? What world does this happen in?

The guy is a total asshole in the movie.

Granted, the lesbian looking chick should’ve acted less like a lesbian and more like she was actually interested in the guy from the start. It would’ve saved all the hassle.

My experience is that in the TRP model they either value themselves less, or work on a different standards model. Any person you become a drain on their life you are kicked but tomboys seem to just want for less. As a high value male you cant cheat on them like a standard high value woman. They are more male aligned in boundaries and values. The mechanic isnt different, its not even really gender different. No one wants to be with someone that doesnt hold up their end of the relationship.
