I'm the same. It's just a subconscious thing because many guys take eye contact as an invitation to talk to you, and I'd rather avoid that.

Well yeah, if you make eye contact the guy might mistake it for interest and try to stick his dick in you... something you generally don't want from randoms who make street approaches. Avoiding male eye contact just makes sense. It isn't weakness and guys would do it too if they got as much unwanted street attention as women do. Just start recognizing why you do it and that you don't need to feel conflicted about it or fight the urge to not make eye contact. You're allowed to make it as difficult as possible for guys to approach when you don't want approaches.

Eye contact in general is an invitation for further interaction, I have found. Since I don't want to interact with most people on the street, I avoid eye contact. With men around my age specifically the type of “invited interaction“ would in most cases be sexual interest and they have a higher incentive to jump at the opportunity so I can see why you would avoid it specifically.

As for looking down, I used to do this a lot with all people just because I'm introverted and wasn't very confident but that type of body language definitely makes you look “weaker“ than simply looking ahead. If it bothers you, it is absolutely something you can work on to change by consciously forcing yourself to keep looking ahead/ in away from the man but not down. (Or pretend to look at your phone)

I don't look down, but I do actively avoid eye contact with men. All too often, it's taken as an invitation to engage with me.

I avoid eye contact with everyone as a nervous tic/anxiety thing. I have to make a conscious effort to make eye contact with people because I default to looking everywhere but a person's face. I don't find myself doing it more with men than with women, but it makes sense that a woman would, since eye contact can often be interpreted as an invitation/IOI.

i don't actively avoid eye contact with men unless i'm in an enclosed space like a train though, walking down the street in the morning i will happily make eye contact and smile to the (white collar, young, non ugly) boys headed to the office to give em a little joy in the morning cuz why not

This is why I hate customer service jobs. It plays on the illusion of invitation.

I suck at eye contact in general and have to make a conscious effort. It helps to stare at a feature on someone's face that's slightly away from the eyes, otherwise I get stuck with such thoughts, "Look at the eyes, look at the eyes!" It makes listening a little difficult.

You subconsciously know why. You know that men will take anything as an indicator of interest especially eye contact. So you avoid eye contact so they won't bother you.

I don't do this. I look where I want to look. Many time men approach me because he thinks I was looking at him. I simply tell them to "Fuck Off", "Go Away", "Not Interested", or simply "No" when you can carry and know self-defense it's amazing how less anxious you are about male interaction and how you don't jump through hoops to soothe poor male ego.

Most men with sexual value seen to have gotten the memo. The ones in lesser value need to be taught tho, some never ever receive eye contact.

I don't avoid male eye contact for the most part. If someone is setting off alarm bells I will, but normally no. Where I live people make eye contact and smile at each other, it feels strange to me to walk past someone as if they're not there.

I don't look down but the only time I may make eye contact is if the guy is cute (even then not always). Otherwise I avoid making eye contact with pretty much every man I pass by as it tend to be interpreted as a sign of interest. If an (unattractive) guy is trying to make eye contact, I sometimes put my hand on the side of my face as to block him from seeing me, as I noticed that's usually (correctly) interpreted as a sign of disinterest.

What the fuck? As a guy I stare straight into anyones eyes. Female or male, it doesn't matter. If you're too much of a coward to not risk social interaction then go back home and lock yourself in. Fuck you lot are weak.
