Background checks are already on the way out for our society as are any other objective measurement of behavior. Because they “discriminate” (to our leftist woke clergy thats somehow bad)

I think there's a market for it. Probably a more exclusive or specialized app, maybe even including credit scores, verified education/job status, the whole nine yards for people who are serious about getting into a relationship and want another metric to easily filter by. All this would probably make it a paid app and would hopefully drive higher quality users who are looking for similar things.

For Tinder, I don't think its the right move just because the userbase is shit and 90% of people on there are just looking to hook up.

I see it more as a way to prevent apps like tinder from being sued by saying "you knew there was this and that yet you still went from it". I don't see it changing jackshit as tinder is not efficient if you're looking for a serious ltr.

Background checks are already a common practice in the arranged marriage market in India (as couples in that situation usually don't take anymore than 6 months or so- if not less before getting engaged or even married).

Most of the time they don't reveal very much except the really extreme stuff like if the person is already married/currently in a very public relationship with someone else, lied about their employment/education, have a criminal record, or is well known to have had some type of scandal involving them or their family.

I don't know what purpose such background checks would serve in a dating situation though, as people generally get to know each other for a long time before making things really serious, and by that time you would know pretty much all the things that a background check could reveal, often along with plenty more that it never could.
