I just stumbled upon this theorization based on OKcupid results that show that women, that guys as a group have split opinions on whether she's attractive or not, get more interest and messages than girls that are found to be conventionally attractive.

This shows us that while some people are universally considered beautiful it may be better for you to be only considered hot by some people and not others
