What makes a celebrity famous is from unconventional good looks believe it or not. Unique features make a person memorable, and in time creates trends with people emulating their looks. Attractiveness matters, but it's not nearly as universal as people think.

In a group of people there are a few blondes and we decide blondes are most attractive because they stand out. Everyone wants to be attractive so they dye their hair blonde except for a couple rebels. Over time the group gets used to seeing blondes everywhere and determine brunettes to be the new attractive hair color.

I think that guys often think that they have a chance with the attractive but not super attractive women and get intimidated by he very attractive ones. The very attractive ones are still going to get plenty of attention, but it’s a certain type of guy who has the balls to pursue them rather than the “typical” guy, who often has some insecurities.

It's not really controversial. I think everyone figured out that some people are really into certain characteristics and that sometimes makes up for others not caring/finding those characteristics ugly.

The sometimes is important because people tend to assume this applies everywhere. The number of women who find short men attractive is not even close to the number of short men so being short wouldn't have this kind of effect.

Also, It's not that guys have less interests in conventionally attractive women that are 4s, it's that they don't believe they have a good chance with those women but those women also aren't attractive enough to make them try anyways.

I think it's an important distinction to make because if you don't you might confuse what's going on with men having high standards.

It's also super important to constantly remind yourself that men send way more messages.

If I send 20 messages to women on my level and then 200 messages to women that are way above my league on the off chance I happen to be exactly their style or something. I still sent 20 messages to women on my level and saying I'm more selective than a woman who sent a message to a guy on her level and 3 messages to guys way above her level is nonsense even if my ratio of messages is way higher than hers.

there might be a complex game thoery behind this as well: Men tend to message and approach women who they consider both hot and within their percieved league, on the belief that it will be easier to seduce them.

The Cookie Cutter cuties are hot, but seem unapproachable and better left for the Chads, which often ironically makes them inexperienced and less picky.

Nobody gets more action than a "fugly but kinda hot" chick who is 7/10 and looks approachable, and nodoby is considered more of a "boyfriend material", than the fugly but fit 7/10 dude who shows some potential.

The problem is, we can't compare celebrities & all we see in media to real life.

In the modern age, unconventionally attractive people ARE the most desirable, seen as high status & sexiest people.

Think Adam Driver, Anya Taylor Joy. This is because we value individuality much much more than in previous generations of human civilizations, so in the masses eyes conventionally attractive people might be alright for modelling, seeing them in advertisements & as backgrounds in TV shows or movies.

However for the people the masses idolize the most, they all have unconventionally attractive features that make them stand out & even more attractive.

At the same time, you have women lower on the totem pole who try to fit more conventional modern beauty standards like the BBL or plastic surgery... either due to insecurity or wanting to rise in status somehow by attracting more of what the high status men want/look for.

That's how you have so many more women wanting to be "thic" in fear of no male approval or attention if they don't have a thic ass or boobs, not to say their aren't biological factors in play for why men like curvier women (no fat or obesity), but in the past if a women wasn't accepted by the tribe she was left alone & either killed or raped by others. Women have to fit in at all cost, but sometimes becoming "hipster" is how you get accepted, if being nerdy becomes the new cool thing men want women to be, women will all jump to this, the culture will heavily shift.

Whether the high status men truly love & want the new versions of those women after the make up, BBL, plastic surgery or not is neither here nor there, because its what social media & media tells all the women THIS IS WHAT MEN WANT. THIS IS WHAT THEY WANT, SO BE THIS OR SUFFER NO LOVE!

This applies to men also. I'm not attractive to the ample majority of women, yet there's a % that thinks that I got "something". It varies from girl to girl as I heard it all, from my "intelectual face" to the "cutting through steel" way of looking to my manly eyebrows (wtf) and even my hands, when I'm pretty sure my hands are not conventionally handsome as I have pretty short fingers.

And that's only talking about superficial/physical attraction, things get even more interesting when talking about personality.

That's why I say to own what you got. Find out what the other gender may like about you and develop it. You don't need to look like the best looking guy/girl, you just need to look like the best you, there will be people interested.

Now if an interested person interests you... game on!

Duh. What is more important than the average rating is the absolute number of people that rank you very hot. The rest is just noise - there is little difference in a guy that ranks you 1 and thinks you are ugly, and one that ranks you 5 and feels you are painfully average. None of them will be enthusiastic about dating that person anyway. It's best to be 10/10 to everyone, but it's clear that having 100% population rank you 6 is way worse than a 50-50 split between 1 and 10. Half the guys think you are crazy hot in second scenario! What difference does it make if it's a 'meh' or 'yuck' for the rest?

I’m a divisive looking dude I guess (I don’t think I look all that unique, look a lot like Chris Pratt). Some girls think I’m not attractive, but some girls will comment how I’m the most attractive guy in the room. To some I’m ideal, to others I’m too bulky or my face doesn’t have a definitive enough jawline to be seen as handsome….hell, I’d say most women think I’m a 6-7, but 1 in 20 think I’m a 10 for them….and their own looks doesn’t really seem to affect that view.

I think that's mostly due to guys feeling insecure about pursuing the conventionally attractive women. They figure they have higher chances of hooking up with a less attractive girl.

If the hot girl is assertive, she can get any guy she wants, though. She needs to show interest first.
