I don't know. If you're ready to accept that asexual people exist, why not demisexual people? Hell, it's pretty logical from a evolutionary perspective in terms of resources and committment. So it seems like it's totally possible. It comes down to, do you personally believe the people who report these things. And you're just listing things that make more "sense" from your worldview. You're linking it to things that already make sense to you (anxiety, asexuality, normal behavior).

What makes you think anxiety even exists? How do you know they're just not "faking?" Or depression. Or homosexuality. Is it so hard to believe something that others claim just because it doesn't fit what you already know?

I don't know what studies have been done by actual psychologists, and that's what we should both be looking at. Not this "Nah I don't believe it you're a snowflake" bullshit.

Demisexuality is LGBT appropriation. It is a label most commonly taken by straight people to pretend to be LGBT. The definition of a label for actual honest to god snowflakes.

I have never seen anyone do this; if you google the phrase and see the articles about it none of them mention "LGBT".

They simply indeed just claim this:

Demis claim that "Oh well I can't have any attraction to someone at all unless I have formed a connection!"

Has nothing to do with "LGBT".

1) You have anxiety that cannot be overcome at all in a casual setting and which must be overcome for you to feel safe enough with someone to feel attracted to them. This is not uncommon and it is not an orientation, and actually can be overcome, often, in therapy if you so desired.

The only person I ever talked to face to face that claimed to be demisexual had absolutely no form of social anxiety and was fairly outgoing. It has just never been attracted to someone it didn't have a connection to.

You are some flavor of asexual and haven't come close to figuring yourself out yet.

Since it had an FWB it had sex with and enjoyed that I doubt that.

You are a straight person who forms connection and sexual desire the same way most people do AND YOU NEEDED A SPECIAL SNOWFLAKE LABEL FOR A MAJORITY PREFERENCE IN SEX AND DATING. CASUAL SEX IS NOT THE MAJORITY, STUPID.

I am pretty sure most people do not need an emotional connection to feel sexual attraction since for one they watch porn.

In any case your entire argument is conditioned upon two things you pulled from the aether:

it's an appropriation of 'LGBT': if you google the phrase the articles about it don't even mention LGBT
it's completely impossible for a human being to exist who doesn't feel sexual attraction without a connection and there must be some other explanation: you just made that up.

I have a few demisexual male friends. As an asexual I can honestly say that when I look at a person, I really don't wonder what they are like in the sheets, no matter how high they are in society's standards. So I asked these friends about their attraction to the opposite sex (they are straight) and they both had different answers

The first guy doesn't really look at girls, he's too busy with school and home projects. Kind of a computer/tech savvy/programmer introvert type. He has had one relationship and it failed. He hasn't looked or really is interested in looking because he wants to get a good job and provide for a family eventually. If there is no family then at least he has a nice retirement. He really is clueless when it comes to flirting and finds it hard to find that special connection since he doesn't trust easily. I didn't ask about his sex life.

The second guy says that he is attracted to girls but it takes a strong emotional connection to want to have sex. Meaning he waits for a while to establish that connection to even feel the urge. He is like me, he doesn't wonder what they would w would be like in the sheets. He seems to fall for the girls that throw themselves at him. He's not ugly, but he does have low self esteem. He is currently a true cuck because the girl knows the way he is. She's a mentally ill, Stacy that has chronic back pain. He's in too deep, I feel bad for him :(

As for whether demisexual's exist. I think it's a way of saying they want to wait until they feel safe and secure. Maybe they don't feel the lack of attraction like me. I don't know, I'm not them. They also can use it as an excuse if they have been hurt, so they don't have relationship with an undesirable person.

Note: I'm asexual but I like romantic relationships, aromantic is an asexual who doesn't like relationships.

What I'll say is it should generally apply to men more than women too, simply because more women are already wired to be more emotionally turned on first and most men visually first (that explains why most dudes like watching porn). So a guy who's emotionally wired is more unique by default lol.

I watched porn sometimes as a teen but it didn't do as much for me as just having girls (well moreso milf's) like me! I always wanted them to be attracted to me and it's not a one way street.

I agree with you. But with some provisos.

Why is "the sexes/genders" you'll sleep with the main axis for defining sexual orientation? Is there any scientific or non-political/non-social reason why this should be the main axis of sexuality?

I totally agree "demisexuality" isn't a sexual orientation as we use the term, since it has nothing to do with the sexes/genders that one is attracted to. That said, I do think it is a legitimate descriptor of someone's sexuality-as-a-whole (i.e. what that person is sexually attracted to, including gender/sex, fetishes and other preferences etc).

Onto the issue of LGBT appropriation, I sort of agree. Although I think its more broadly classified as an issue of people trying to gain status points in the Oppression Olympics. In this case, by making oneself a sexual minority.

When status is a product of being a victimized minority, is it any surprise that people start trying to become a victimized minority to the point of inventing new minority victim groups?

Demisexuality, in my view, exists, although it isn't the same thing as "sexual orientation" as we currently use the phrase (its a category error to suggest that they're the same thing). But the proliferation of the label is really a function of contemporary social justice/identity politics. In certain social circles, people need to avoid the label "straight" so they call themselves "demisexual."

If they feel the need for a specific label to force a little more respect and understanding for the fact that casual sex with a stranger is just not and likely never will be an option for them, they feel the need. I never had to have such a word to describe me but quite frankly if I was growing up in this current era I might be using the term to describe myself. Things are different now. Lives get played out in front of facebook audiences. To be understood and accepted for what one is presents a slightly different set of challenges to what it did in the 80s and 90s. The old times are gone and barring some sort of apocalypse they will never return.

What is a lot sillier than the label "demisexual" is you getting worked up about the label. There's nothing wrong with having a supply of slightly more descriptive words for normal people.

The self-assignment of these labels of sexuality are essentially some sad sack's way of trying to make themselves interesting when in fact they have very little of note to say about themselves. It's even more obvious when they go on and on about it, either online or real life.

Personally, if you have a tendency to go on about stuff like this, but you're equally as invested in being a musician, a video game programmer, a rock climber, I won't get mad about it. It's a part of a much greater whole, and that's certainly a healthy way of going about it if you must. But HOLY FUCK, it's painful to see someone who's stuck on the topic of their sexuality bring everyone down to the same level because they can't be comfortable otherwise.

Oftentimes, you’re not trans, you’re just a dude with a fetish for women’s clothing and you get off on the idea of having sex with the female version of yourself. That’s not trans. That’s crazy.
