There are obviously categorical (or nearly so) differences between men and women. Men have penises and women have vaginas. Men have much more testosterone than women. They are sexually attracted to neoteny. Women are attracted to dominance, etc.

There also differences in the average characteristics of the sexes. Women are more empathetic on average, and men are more systematizing. Women are more emotionally expressive, etc. But these are different from the categorical sex differences, because most people fall within the overlap of the bell curves. Sex differences are only relevant when considering either a large number of people, or at the extremes. Women still can relate to having a systematic thought process, and men can still feel emotions.

Something I have noticed that men from the manosphere often speak of the latter, statistical gender differences as though they are categorical gender differences. For an example, if a woman is dating a guy and says he is perfect in every way but is at the same time longs for her asshole ex and the drama that came with that relationship, Rpillers would call this a classic case of AF/BB. Notice this is a categorical gender difference and not a differences in averages. Men do not pursue AF/BB at all. Yet this behavior appears in men all the time. Look at the following post from /r/relationships.

example

My girlfriend loves me a lot, and I think I might love her, too. But for whatever reason, she doesn't make my heart race. Sometimes I feel bored with her and crave a deeper, more intense, more dramatic relationship. My ex-girlfriend may have been a nightmare, but I never wanted to be away from her for more than a second.

Or what about passing up nice guys in their youth to fuck alphas and then later settling with the nice guy in marriage? Is this categorical female behavior? No. See the following example.

example

Im 20 and ive been dating this girl since i was 16 years old. I lost my virginity to her at that age and ive never had any other experiences (sexually) with any other women before (neither has she). She the perfect girlfriend and shes doing nothing wrong. But i feel like im stilll young and this is the time to get all the experience I can this way i can fully appreciate her and not have the thought of "what if" always in the back of mind. I want to gather some experiences on my own (even shitty ones) this way i know what it is i want and i can get everything out of my system. I want to marry her one day and get back together but im worried that she wont buy the whole "take a break" thing.

These don't seem to be 'freak' examples, like a man being born without a penis, or a woman being attracted to very young boys. Rather, they appear to speak to something about human nature that applies to both genders. Therefore, even if women do these sorts of things more on average, it would be inaccurate to site them as a categorical gender difference, like calling it AF/BB. Since this behavior is frequent in men as well, there must be a more general principle of human nature happening here.

I have noticed this happening on the small scale too. For instance, men will say things like 'women love assholes' rather than saying something like 'abusive people are good at manipulating people'. They recognize that men often end up with horrible abusive women because these women are good at tricking the men into thinking they aren't like that. So why don't they make the same explanation for women? The behavior is the same, so why not the explanation for the behavior?
