Do you value communicate in a relationship?

Define "communicate". Communicate consists a variety of things, from verbal to non-verbal. You can sit silently and still communicate through facial expressions and body language.

There are also people that communicate openly, bluntly, and directly without necessarily saying anything interesting, informative or relevant. You can also be a long-winded story-teller that adds context to the everything, and still make an informative point.

The most important things to me are either:

Not just speaking, but understanding my communication style (or being receptive + quick to learn it).
Being good at communication in general i.e., the ability to adapt, comprehend and speak multiple communication styles and interact through them effectively to exchange information.

Being a poor communicator is a deal-breaker, an inability to speak and understand my language in specific is an incompatibility I never have time for.

Well yeah. If we're going to be spending the rest of our lives together (in theory) we kind of have to be on the same page about certain things, or at least able to find a compromise.

It's non negotiable. Mandatory. If you've got a bug up your ass about something or another and you cannot explain it to me in plain, clear words, we're going to have an issue.

Secondary; if you're irritated by something that ISN'T me and I have to deal with a shitty attitude because of it? We're going to have words. Communication is part of a greater package of emotional intelligence, and if you're in a bad mood I need to know so I can help. But I will not be a punching bag.

It's important. Think about of all you other relationships. Communication is one the many signs of a healthy romantic relationship. One thing that annoys me about men is that they bottle up their emotions and when they have to say it all, they say it all and is usually bad.

Almost not at all. Growing up, my mom spoke Russian and my dad spoke Italian. They only had a little bit of broken English between them. Now they have been together more than 30 years...

I don’t really care about that. I’m more of a physical person. I like doing things with my partner like going out, making memories, being active. Talking about feelings is boring. They can communicate whatever they want to but if they start talking too much I start getting annoyed.

Constant, open, honest communication is essential to me personally. I experience emotions intensely so i just couldn't feel easy being with a guy who never expresses his emotions or thoughts, makes me feel like he's hiding them which makes me feel insecure. It's important to me that he lets me know when something is bothering him, whether it's about me, the relationship or something in his life. I also can't connect and bond with him on a deeper unless he opens up to me emotionally, i need that kind of openness to develop a connection with people, and it makes my love for him so much stronger and makes me feel safe and secure in the relationship

I do because it means me and my husband are on the same page or at least have better insight into our thoughts and feelings and ambitions. If you can only play mind games or give the silent treatment, it’s a lousy relationship.

Ability to express themselves and to listen to me are one of base requirements for any close relationships, whether they're romantic or friendly. I don't get on well with people who can't talk about their feelings or can't stand my way of expressing myself.

not as much as I value other things. I need them to communicate with me about the things that bother them enough to make the relationship less enjoyable, I don't feel the need to discuss everything and I'm not good at it.

im a pretty bad communicator when it comes to my side of things but I'm usually really receptive of their side and style of communication. as long as I know they enjoy being around me and I know they know I do, I think it's good enough
