First of all, it is not true that young men are turning to the right. Young men are staying put, loyal to their parents -including his mother- ideology. Young women are going fast to the left.

Why? Because the global economic crisis since 2008 has pressured both men and women into being rational (=strategically act in their self-interest). Neither can afford delusions. But for women it is rational to go towards the left, and for men it is rational to stay in the right.

The effect for this asymmetry changes the romantic dynamic for conservative men more than for liberal women. The reason for that is that conservatives marry younger. Thus, the conservative marrying pool dries up extremely fast while liberal women can still find lots of liberal men into their early 30s.

Because conservative men are stuck with fewer and fewer conservative women, their market power rise. And because the conservative relationships assume men to be the provider, poor religious women can marry up and compensate the misoginy in conservative circles with huge ammounts of money.

On the other hand, feminism implies a redirection of the scarce emotional labour into inter-female interactions. This generates an accumulation of interpersonal cultural capital amongst young liberal women and an extreme scarcity of interpersonal cultural capital amongst young liberal men.

In this way, young men rely on traditional sources of community, like the Church, while young women rely on newly created feminist communities.

The core problem is not the redirection of female emotional labour towards other women. It is the undervaluation of female-coded emotional labour under capitalism, which creates a scarcity of interpersonal cultural capital, that gets acute in young men. This blocks their internal growth that would allow them to have a non-traditional relationship. Thus, they get stuck in conservative relationships, which become more and more expensive.
