Supposing that the self-reporting numbers are either correct or show a correct trend in general, my first thought is libido, SMV, and age preferences.

First of all, men have a significantly higher libido. Compare lesbian and gay dating. Who fucks more? Men, of course men.

But why do they not cheat more in their teens/twenties? This is when men are at their lowest SMV wise. Because most aren't attractive enough for that. Plenty of young men are too broke, their careers usually pick up in their 30's, and that is much less of a factor (if a factor at all) for women because they are wanted for the bodies alone (almost).

And then when men are attractive enough status wise, given sufficient looks they go for younger, hotter women instead of chasing their age equals. Women generally prefer a guy of their age, maybe a few years older, but those men become uninterested in them if they are pushing 40's to 50's when even the possible MILF appeal gets too hard to maintain for an average woman.

The numbers show self-reported share of people who EVER cheated while married. To get gross estimate by age cohort, you need to look at finite differences (next value in a row minus previous value in a row).

Analogy: if 10% people report ever trying weed at the age of 30, and 11% of people report it at the age of 40, it means that between ages of 30 and 40 only 1 percent of the sample tried weed, versus 10 percent who tried it before the age of 30. Especially if the same pattern repeats itself after 10 years of observations.

Assuming minimization of error in the middle of given cohorts and looking at finite differences,

10% of men / 11% of women cheated before the age 23;

4% of men / 0% of women cheated between 24 and 34;

1% of men / 2% of women cheated between 35 and 44;

9% of men / 3% of women cheated between 45 and 54;

2% of men / abysmally small percent of women cheated between 55 and 64.

Thus we see that young women (<23) very much dominate "the cheating market". The actual age bracket boundaries have a "fork" of plus/minus 5 years, and the estimates don't take into account intergenerational differences, so the numbers are very approximate.

This paper shows results of similar survey from year 1994; reasonable comparisons are impossible due to very small N of the study, but the pattern is quite similar.

Also, why do men cheat more than women

Not the slightest idea. Never cheated, never hung out with guys who cheated; got cheated on, know multiple guys who got cheated on.

All these stats show me is that men cheat significantly more than women and cheat more and more the longer they’re married. The only decade where women cheat more, it’s 10% for men and 11% for women... that’s only a 1% difference. Might as well call it even. Then as time goes by, men cheat a lot more while women cheat a little more. There is no decade where women actually cheat a lot more than men. Old women don’t cheat as much because they have no sex drive, and old men are pumped full of Viagra and want younger women.

In my highly subjective observations, up to age 40, female cheating >>> male cheating.

Trend data going back to the 1990s suggests that men have always been more likely than women to cheat. Even so, older men were no more likely to cheat than their younger peers in the past. In the 1990s, the infidelity rate peaked among men ages 50 to 59 (31%) and women ages 40 to 49 (18%). It was lower for both men and women at the older end of the age spectrum. Between 2000 and 2009, the highest rate of infidelity shifted to men ages 60 to 69 (29%) and women ages 50 to 59 (17%). Meanwhile, the gender gap at ages 80+ increased from 5% to 12% in two decades.

A generation or cohort effect is likely to contribute to this shifting gender gap in infidelity. As Nicholas Wolfinger noted in an earlier post, Americans born in the 1940s and 1950s reported the highest rates of extramarital sex, perhaps because they were the first generations to come of age during the sexual revolution. My analysis by gender suggests that men and women follow a slightly different age pattern when it comes to extramarital sex. Women born in the 1940s and 1950s are more likely than other women to be unfaithful to their spouse, and men born in the 1930s and 1940s have a higher rate than other age groups of men. The higher infidelity rates among these two cohorts contribute to the changing pattern in the gender gap as they grow older over time.

So the reason for this difference might lie in attitude of different generations towards marriage, commitment and cheating.

The other factor is menopause. Men and women tend to have decreased sex drive as they age, but women are more affected by it due to hormonal shift.

Because as another post some time before already shown, women find men about their age to be the most attractive while men find young women to be the most attractive regardless of their age. That could be one of the factors in older men cheating on their wives, they want younger women.

Men can increase their SMV with age, hence attract a wider and wider pool of mates. Women don't have that upward mobility in terms of SMV, in fact it only goes downwards after a certain age.

The chad of yesteryear will continue to be chads even become megachads. The semi chads when they improve with age will have more access to women then they did previously. Might even appear more refined and cultured as time goes on as compared to the rough and brute regular Chad.

Women cheat more than men because they have easier access to sex, they don't have to build any value before they become attractive to the opposite sex either. Their value is in their youth, beauty and fertility, so all they have to do is to show up and...point.

That men would cheat more is false, most men don't get intimate access to women in the first place.

18-29: Men cheat at 10%, women at 11%

Women have way more options and this includes men in relationships

30-39: Men 14%, Women 11%

Men gain the upper hand in dating and thus have more options

40-49: Men 15%, women 13%

Marriages here reach the decade plus Mark and people start exploring their options.

50-59: men 24%, women 16%

Less men, more women and the divorcees/widows are coming online. Wives are menopausal...

60-69: men 26%, women 13%

Much less men, more women so options for men are much larger.

Elderly: Men 24% women 6%

Tons of women available and a very small percentage of men.
